Job Description:
Under the direction of the Sr. Human Resource Manager, the Training and Labor Relations Specialist is responsible for support of all human resource functions for the Romulus site. The individual recommends and interprets company and department policies and communicates them to employees. This person also performs various activities to support department functions with emphasis on those relating to training and labor relations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responsible for employee training. Performs needs assessment and makes training recommendations.
- Works with the department leaders to identify and select qualified trainers/subject matter experts to deliver on-the-job training to employees.
- Responsible for coordination, scheduling, and administration of on-the-job training programs. Coordinates the delivery of the training with Supervisors or Leaders.
- Maintains, develops or revises standardized training plans to ensure all newly hired, transferred or backup associates are trained in all aspects of their role, in a consistent manner.
- Monitors ongoing training to existing associates to ensure standard work and processes remain consistent for all employees.
- Responsible for maintaining the training database, including input of training records as required by Company policy, agencies, ISO or other requirements.
- Provides ongoing coaching to trainers/SMEs, as required, on relevant training techniques for each position. Trains trainers/SMEs on various training techniques.
- Assists with various site training requirements such as site policy training, safety training and/or compliance related training.
- Responsible for the content and delivery of new hire orientation.
- Represents the Company in administering the provisions of the Union Contract for all represented employees.
- Maintains effective relationships with Union leadership and provides guidance relative to contract interpretation and administration.
- Advises, counsels, and administers policies as they relate to bargaining unit employees, including discipline, work rules, and safety practices, etc.
- Advises management personnel with regards to appropriate contract administration and response development for first step grievances.
- Schedules, facilitates, and formulates responses for second step grievance hearings.
- Investigates and collects data pertaining to labor disputes and grievances and provides support for contract negotiation process.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining effective employee relations including executive, salaried, and hourly personnel.
- Responsible for responding to day-to-day questions on established policies, programs, procedures, and labor contract interpretation.
- Responsible for effective communication to employees; writes memos, letters, announcements, and other documents as required; counsels individuals and addresses groups of employees on various topics, including policies, programs, and the like.
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resource functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
- Provides support for special projects/investigations as needed.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of professional level HR/training experience required. May accept less experience with an advanced degree.
- Previous experience leading processes or projects with demonstrated success in managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Solid systems experience required including Excel, MS office and/or data base experience. HRIS experience such as Workday is beneficial.
- Continuous Improvement mindset and experience is essential.

- Comfortable presenting/training in front of groups as well as via phone.
