Metro operates three unique and dynamic venues that drive substantial economic activity for the Portland Metro region.  The recent pandemic dramatically impacted operations at the Oregon Convention Center, Portland’5 Centers for the Arts, and the Portland Expo Center and as we rebuild/reopen better, our Leadership is currently shifting their focus to reopening and needs a finance partner to help work through this process.
 
Together these venues are visited by over two million people annually, present 1,500 events/performances and have an operating budget of $100 million. From Rose City Comic Con at the Convention Center, to Broadway at the Keller and the Sportsmen’s Show at the Expo Center, these MERC venues provide world-class gathering and entertainment spaces for both local residents and visitors.
 
As part of Metro Central Finance team, you will support the MERC Venues which is the Oregon Convention Center, Portland ‘5, and the Expo Center. The Finance Manager is a working manager, who provides higher level planning, forecasting and guidance for budget development and financial management as well as performing daily operational tasks related to business processes such as payables, contracting and reporting.
 
 
As the Finance Manager you will:
 
Financial Management and Analysis:
  • Develop complex financial planning models, analyze the results and prepare strategy recommendations to stakeholders. 
  • Review and analyze monthly financial reports for operational oversight.
  • Prepare and analyze essential estimates for transient lodging tax and other major revenues. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and directors to support the development of five-year forecast that align with market trends and forecasted projections.
 
Relationship and Partner Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with venue directors from three different venues. 
  • Serve as the primary financial consultant, partner and support to those departments and their leadership team. 
  • Work with professional and community based organizations to help support venue directors achieve department and venue goals.
  • Develop relationships across departments, teams and personnel throughout the agency.
 
Project Management:
  • Manage, research and implement special projects as requested by CFO or venue director. 
  • Develop financial policies, improve financial processes, manage software upgrades and participate in steering committees, along with other duties. 
  • Supervise, initiate and execute contracts on an as needed basis.
Supervision and Staff Management:
  • Manage daily workflow for department finance staff; assign work, ensure project tasks and priority issues are addressed.
  • Provide supervision to professional and technical staff, including hiring, promoting, transferring, assigning, evaluating performance, disciplining, and discharging.
  • Develop successful and supportive work culture that is inclusive, flexible and understanding.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field; AND
  • Five years management or supervisory experience; AND
  • At least 3 years of that experience in a Finance/Budgetary role; OR
  • We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.]

However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.  Your transferable skills are any skills you have gained through education, work experience (including the military) or life experience that are relevant for this position.
  • Applicable Professional Certification (CPA, CMA, CPFO, CGFMP preferred skills)
  • Prior experience managing a team of Finance specialists
  • Prior experience managing in a unionized environment
 Based on our internal equity review process and the candidates qualifications the appointment will typically be made between $99,947.00 - $121,680.00. The full-salary range for this position is $99,947.00 - $141,968.00 annually. 
 
This position is non-represented and exempt and is classified as an Manager II (click to read the full classification). Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
