The Student Accessibility Specialist (SAS) provides one-on-one support to students with disabilities through executive functioning coaching, provision of testing accommodations, alternate format materials, and utilizing assistive technology. The SAS plays a crucial part in supporting individuals with disabilities by providing administrative assistance and facilitating the implementation of accommodations and services. The Student Accessibility Specialist is responsible for coordinating the acquisition and distribution of alternate format materials, oversight of equipment inventory and check-out process, and supporting the maintenance of student documentation and record-keeping.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Individualized Student Support
1. Provides one-on-one sessions to individuals with disabilities, focusing on executive functioning skills such as time management, organization, planning, prioritization, goal-setting, and self-regulation.
2. Teaches and models effective strategies and techniques for improving executive functioning skills, such as using planners and calendars, breaking tasks into manageable steps, implementing routines and systems, and managing distractions.
3. Coordinates and provides test-taking accommodations for students with disabilities, including extended time, distraction-reduced environment, scribing, and reading of exams.
4. Provides basic technical support and assistance to students with disabilities in accessing and using assistive technologies and adaptive equipment.

Documentation, Recordkeeping, and Compliance
1. Assists in the organization and maintenance of student files and documentation in compliance with privacy regulations and institutional policies.
2. Enters and updates information in the disability services database, including student intake forms, accommodation requests, and documentation of services provided.
3. Supports an accessible learning environment that complies with the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
4. Documents procedures, troubleshooting steps, and best practices for the use of assistive technologies and accommodations.

Accommodation Coordination
1. Coordinates the procurement, setup, and maintenance of assistive technology resources, note-taking paper, etc. and adaptive software installations by IT staff.
2. Converts academic materials into accessible formats such as alternatively formatted textbooks (including Braille).
3. Coordinates the placement of adaptive equipment (chairs and tables) in classrooms each quarter.
4. Works collaboratively with Disability Support Services counselors to facilitate accommodations for students with disabilities.
5. Supports the Coordinator of Interpreter services by acquiring, storing, and distributing materials and equipment to sign language interpreters and students, and scheduling of sign language interpreters, as needed.
6. Develops and delivers training sessions and workshops on the use of assistive technologies, accessibility features, and adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities.

1. Knowledge of characteristics and dynamics of specific disabilities.
2. Knowledge and skills regarding a wide range of assistive technology.
3. Proficient knowledge using Mac OS, Windows, MS Office Suite, and other College supported software applications.
4. Knowledge of and commitment to accessibility issues.
5. Excellent listening and effective communication skills with diverse populations to include all areas and levels of the College.
6. Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
7. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues.
8. Ability to work collaboratively with team members and coordinate efforts during emergencies.
9. Ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
10. Ability to be flexible, multi-task and prioritize workload.
11. Ability to travel between buildings on campus and other campus and centers.
12. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Required Qualification
Associate’s degree with three (3) years of full-time related experience providing technical/computing support, assistive technology and working with students with disabilities in an educational environment.

Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Schedule: M-F day hours; occasional evening/Saturday hours

Location: Hiring two candidates and will be officed at Fort Omaha Campus or Elkhorn Valley Campus or travel to any of the MCC locations.

Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities.

Hiring process includes passing a background check.
