The Met, founded by the non-profit Big Picture Learning, began in 1996 as a groundbreaking new school with a student-teacher ratio of 16:1, high standards and strong family engagement. With more than 20 years in education, the Met has expanded to a network of six small high schools throughout the state of Rhode Island. The Met empowers its students to take charge of their learning, become responsible citizens and life-long learners. Met milestones include internships, individual learning plans, advisories, and a breakthrough college transition program.

Position: Human Resources (HR) Coordinator
Reports to: Payroll, Benefits and Staff Recruitment Manager
Employment Status: Full-time, permanent, 12 month
Start Date: Immediately
Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 per year, plus benefits

Position Overview:
The HR Coordinator supports the human resources department in ensuring smooth and efficient business operations. The role will require both administrative and strategic responsibilities. This position will assist the HR department in a variety of
HR activities such as handling employee data, on-boarding, off-boarding, performance management, recruitment/hiring processes, policy interpretation, workforce planning activities and employee relations. The ideal candidate will be competent in handling different human resources responsibilities and have sufficient professional experience along with strong communication abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Assist with the implementation of HR policies and procedures
● Performs customer service functions by answering employee-related requests and questions, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to direct report as needed
● Attends and participates in employee grievances meetings and disciplinary meetings as needed
● Support employee relations initiatives by assisting with investigations and resolving employee concerns when needed
● Prepares and maintains new employee files
● Ensures personnel and confidential files are maintained and compliant
● Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files
● Assist in maintenance of employee portal site and staff website page as needed
● Assists in the planning and execution of employee engagement activities and recruiting events
● Assist with recruitment and hiring processes, including posting positions, reviewing resumes, and setting up interviews, corresponding with candidates, and reviewing new hire paperwork;
● Responds with follow-up communications at the end of the recruiting process
● Assists onboarding of new hires, including supporting new hire orientations, creating new hire folders, and any other necessary tasks
● Submits bills for the department
● Responds to unemployment, employment verification, and other related requests
● Submits workers compensation claims to a third-party administrator
● Maintain RIDE report database (PAS, Educator Attendance, etc.)
● Serve as backup for payroll and benefit administration as needed
● Stay up-to-date on HR best practices and compliance requirements
● Assists with special projects, initiatives, and other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications & Skills:
● Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred or equivalent work experience
● 2 years of experience in an HR Coordinator or similar role

● SHRM-CP and/or PHR certification a plus
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Organizational and time management skills
● Must be self-motivated and willing to learn
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
● Basic computer skills required for use of data and email; knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite
● The ideal candidate will be required to meet all pre-employment requirements such as background check
