We are seeking a Research & Development Project Manager to join our team to provide technical leadership and manage the execution of assigned R&D projects with the objective of developing new and sustainable mineral processing flowsheets while achieving targets for safety, quality, schedule and budget. When necessary, the project manager will perform traditional process metallurgist duties in support of the project execution. In this position, you will report to Brian Knorr, Head of Concentrator Technologies.
We are building an exciting new team in Minerals’ Technology & Innovation (T&I) function with a mission to guide and accelerate development of new and innovative mineral processing flowsheets that integrate emerging technologies. This team will partner with key stakeholders throughout the organization to execute: cross-functional internal collaboration of the flowsheet development research related to high-priority emerging technologies, testing and simulation of newly envisioned flowsheets, knowledge gathering of emerging technologies and new competitor offerings, and technical marketing of Metso’s unique offerings.
This position is primarily located at the Metso Test Center in York, PA.
Team you belong to
You will join a team of researchers and engineers taking action on emerging technologies and accelerating development of new and innovative mineral processing flowsheets. We are currently working on a range of technology development initiatives aimed at delivering improvements in sustainability through reduced consumption of energy and water.
The project manager is also responsible for stakeholder communication and relationship management including customers, suppliers, and internal Metso stakeholders. Our team culture is all about getting it done together. The members in our team are located in various locations globally and coordinate with our testing centers and customers to validate new technologies both in the laboratory and on site in an industrial setting.
What you’ll do
Key accountabilities and responsibilities include:
Directs and has management responsibility for all required activities related to assigned projects
Reports project status, financial and schedule, in an accurate and timely fashion
Keeps Product Managers and other stakeholders up to date on their project’s progress
Coordinates with supply chain, market areas, test centers, customers, universities, and vendors as required by the assigned projects
Within Technology & Innovation
Collaborates with engineers and researchers as needed for project support
Supports Sustainability Program leader in analysis and reporting of sustainability metrics for assigned projects
Process Metallurgist related duties:
Develop testing procedures, test equipment and related processing equipment (material movement, instrumentation, sampling, etc) for multi-equipment processes
Develop test programs utilizing proper designs of experiments (such as through use of Minitab)
Process modeling and simulation utilizing HSC Sim for flow sheet development and analysis
Develop and maintain process design tools and metallurgical process documentation
Market area outreach and customer data gathering
Coordination of flowsheet development research with other digital initiatives to promote these new concepts
Who you are
Bachelor of Science or higher and 5 years of relevant experience
Experience within the mining or other related industries
PMP Certification is a plus
SAP experience is a plus
Product development experience in an R&D environment is a plus
Ability to travel and willingness to cooperate with a team of professionals in different countries
Creative problem identification, conceptualization and analytical thinking skills
