Job Description Summary
The EMT provides basic life support as a member of an advanced life support crew. This position is classified as OSHA Category 1. Works under general supervision. Job Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs basic life support as determined by patient need.
Provide basic airway management and basic airway skills including oral suctions, oxygen administration, bag-valve mask ventilation, use of BLS airway adjuncts, and the administration of nebulized Albuterol.
Performs basic life support skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the use if the automated external defibrillator, the recognition and treatment of shock, the control of bleeding, bandaging, and splinting, and the administration of medications as indicated by the patient and as defined by protocol within the scope of practice of the EMT.
Identify the need for resuscitation and take appropriate measures to provide the patient with the best possible outcome.
Complete the patient care report that completely and accurately describes measures taken and the required information to assist with the patient's account for billing purposes.
Delivers high quality patient care in accordance with current Kansas Board of EMS regulations and the authorized activities of the Kansas certified EMT and as established by local protocol.
Participate in training to continuously improve basic life support knowledge and skills as part of on-going professional and personal development.
Serves as a representative for Miami County EMS, exemplifying department values.
Provides ethical leadership and mentoring to others for their benefit and the benefit of the organization.
Supports the leadership of the EMS department to reflect the mission, values, and culture of Miami Count EMS.
Provides detailed cleaning, disinfection and decontamination of the ambulances and equipment.
Participates in department training as part of continuous quality improvement.
Participates in the department's health and wellness program including physical fitness and physical agility.
Participates in shift and department meetings to review call data and trends in emergency services.
Participates in community and public education including demonstrations to schools, civic groups, and local businesses.
All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Position Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Kansas Certified EMT required.
AHA BLS Provider Certification preferred or will provide within 6 months of employment. Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 required during orientation.
Position requires on-call/stand-by work; required to work on holidays; shift work
Proper uniform required

Knowledge:
Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office.
County and/or city government administration.
Emergency medical care and treatment with associated knowledge and the ability to demonstrate basic life support skills.
Triage and the Incident Management System.
Establishing treatment priorities and implementation of a treatment plan.
Interpersonal skills necessary to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
Flexibility and adaptability are critical in a changing and unpredictable environment.
Computers and electronic patient reports, storage, and transmission with HIPPA compliance.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and/or the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action for the organization at any given point in time.
Ability to operate and use radio systems and biomedical equipment.
Ability to learn the functions, operating methods and equipment used in emergency medical care and ambulance service.
Ability to learn the technical requirements and standards of emergency medical care.
Ability to react with an appropriate sense of urgency, coupled with good judgment and discernment.
Ability to rapidly assess, evaluate, and formulate an action plan for the management of a project or an incident.
Ability to operate computer programs/software/platforms used by the county to perform job duties.
Ability to use basic office equipment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to deal with stress and high-pressure situations in a professional, productive manner.
Physical Requirements

Undesirable health and safety condition(s) under which employee must perform:

Frequent exposure to blood, biohazards, and infectious pathogens.
Life threatening/safety-sensitive position, weather essential position, emergency essential position.
Frequent exposure to fire hazards, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards and environmental hazards.
Occasionally exposure to explosives and radiation.

Lifting/Moving - Frequently; lifting/moving a weight up to 100 pounds. Occasionally; lifting/moving up to 300 pounds with assistance.
