CLASSIFICATION PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Grant Writer engages in the full grant process, including research and identification of funding sources, proposal and application for funding and documentation and reporting necessary to obtain and maintain grants from Federal, State and other agencies.

JOB DUTIES
  • Under limited direction, conducts a full range of activities required to research, identify, prepare, manage and submit grant proposals to Federal, State, and other agencies
  • Conducts a full range of activities required to research, identify, prepare, manage and submit grant proposals to Federal, State, foundation or corporate sources
  • Prepares grant applications, requests for proposals and letters of intent/inquiry
  • Works with assigned departments to prepare budgets or other documents in response to solicitations
  • Establishes and maintains complete files on all grants and contracts entered by the County
  • Establishes and maintains personal contact and relationships with Federal, State and foundation contacts and program officers
  • Works to increase grant-related revenue streams for the County
  • Assists with preparing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance submissions
  • Coordinates financial audits and information requests from FEMA and other grant/contract representatives
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions
  • Demonstrates regular, predictable, and punctual attendance

MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of data collection methods related to grant writing ∙ methods of developing grant writing strategies, goals, and objectives ∙ grant processes and procedures, including application procedures, guidelines and requirements governing such funds ∙ analytical and statistical methods ∙ Federal, State and local grant sources ∙ proposal submission and fundraising processes

Skills in interviewing and data-gathering techniques ∙ researching, analyzing, interpreting, and applying related Federal, State and local laws, rules, and regulations ∙ use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint ∙ verbal and written communication

Ability to develop and submit grant proposals ∙ establish collaborative working relationships with other employees and the public ∙ compile and analyze data using quantitative and statistical analysis techniques ∙ perform mathematical calculations ∙ collaborate effectively with others ∙ perform independently a wide variety of tasks ∙ handle confidential matters with utmost integrity

MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban Planning, English, Communications, or other related field, supplemented by more than two (2) years’ experience in full-cycle grants application and documentation process. Equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to be able to frequently move about inside the office to access files, personnel, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • This position frequently communicates with supervisor and other team members to gather relevant data for grants proposals and reports.  Must be able to communicate clearly in these circumstances.
  • Must be able to perceive, inspect, assess, and compare data and to synthesize data into comprehensive reports and cohesive proposals for funding.  
  • Occasionally moves boxes and/or files weighing up to 10 pounds.
HOURSMonday – Friday, 730a – 4p (Hours may vary due to the needs of the agency outside of normal working hours)
