Summary
The University of Michigan Medical School Facilities department is seeking a GIS Web Developer to join our team. This individual will be integral in supporting strategic and operational planning for a consortium of schools and colleges within the University. The GIS platform is a critical tool for decision-making related to space assignment and facilities utilization. The team seeks an energetic, self-motivated individual who has demonstrated successful experience building, implementing and supporting GIS web solutions. This is a remote position.

Responsibilities*
Software/GIS Developer Senior: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Math, Geography or a related field, and at least four years of relevant experience
Desired Qualifications*
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Background Screening

Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Responsibilities*
- Maintain/operate PostGIS database for campus geospatial data
- Update vector tiles using OGR/GDAL or tippecanoe using bash script and crontab
- Maintain CAD to GIS conversion pipeline using Safe FME and Python
- Develop a new pipeline to convert CAD drawings into new GIS data formats, such as GeoJSON, streamlining the process of integrating architectural designs with geospatial applications.
- Design and manage ETL process, including data extraction, transformation, and loading into databases
- Update processes and develop new services to meet evolving organizational needs
- Participate as needed in development meetings with key partners and customers
Software/GIS Developer Senior: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Math, Geography or a related field, and at least four years of relevant experience
- Practical experience in Python
- Practical Experience with open source geospatial eco-system such as OGR/GDAL, PostGIS
- Experience with Linux operating systems including bash script
- Experience with CAD applications such AutoCAD
- Experience with version control such as Git
- Experience with database query language SQL for PostgreSQL and/or Oracle
- Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to find the root cause of problems and resolve issues
- Ability to provide innovative solution to complex problems
- Ability to solve technical challenges efficiently and effectively
- Identify and leverage the latest technology and methodology
- Ability to define and document functionalities, processes, and best practices
- Strong team skills and ability to work independently
Desired Qualifications*
- Proficiency and demonstrated experience with geospatial skills and technologies:
- Python
- OGR/GDAL
- PostgreSQL, PostGIS
- Safe FME
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud platform
