What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food and Beverage Manager position at Michigan State University?
Manages all food & beverage operations for the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, including the State Room Restaurant, Events (Banquets/Catering), and Kitchen operations; develops short-term and long term goals in order to achieve guest service, staff development, and financial goals for Kellogg Center food & beverage areas; serves as part of the Kellogg Center leadership team and participates in all meetings, goal setting, and implementation of new initiatives to provide excellent guest service; oversees all food and beverage events to ensure presentation and service of the highest industry standards; oversees the development of special menus, special events, and pricing for banquet/event areas and related food service operations; maintains a close working relationship with Culinary Services management team in order to properly coordinate and facilitate culinary related services and events; develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures in order to attain goals; manages, reviews, and evaluates the financial performance of food and beverage areas and implements effective controls; develops new food & beverage promotional opportunities in response to changing market conditions; manages the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating of the food & beverage management team; develops, implements and monitors guest feedback systems and oversees necessary guest service changes; instructs and supervises food and beverage managers regarding food preparation and service; oversees the development and implementation of food and beverage training programs; oversees sanitation practices in order to meet departmental, University, local, state and federal regulations; maintains and/or increases competence in hospitality industry practices through seminars, conferences, or workshops.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Hospitality Business, Business Adminstration, or a related business field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in food and beverage management, food production, and food and beverage service; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Extensive experience managing a food & beverage operation in a hotel, conference center, restaurant, or catering/event company; experience leading and working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LBGTQIA , and gender backgrounds.
