What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Nursing (DON) LTC position at Midas Consulting?
- Responsible and accountable for all nursing care provided 24 hours, seven days a week.
- Develops and implements Nursing Department organizational chart.
- Develops and participates in the nursing administration on-call schedule, supporting the nursing team 24 hours per day.
- Develops, implements, and maintains a master staffing plan sufficient to meet the 24 hour needs of the residents.
- Defines minimum staffing guidelines and implements a plan sufficient to meet the 24 hour needs of the residents.
- Maintains, reviews, revises, and enforces nursing services procedures including job descriptions for all nursing staff members in keeping with faculty policy and philosophy, vision and mission.
- Implements and oversees a formal quality assurance program including all aspects of nursing care and infection control, as well as leading and facilitating the facilities quality assurance committee.
- Maintains a record of name, address, and verified license number with expiration date for all licensed and registered personnel and New York State Certification for nursing assistants.
- Monitors employee health needs of all employees of the facility. Maintains a record of yearly performance evaluations for all Nursing Department personnel.
- Plans and maintains an annual budget for all Nursing Department functions, personnel supplies and equipment, as well as a capital budget.
- Assures availability of adequate supplies and equipment to meet the nursing care needs of the residents. Assures appropriate admissions, through role and the admissions.
- Assures ongoing assessment of all residents with an interdisciplinary approach to care planning.
- Advises, consults with, and reports to administration on Nursing Department functions and resident care.
- Responsible for final decision regarding hiring and firing of all department staff.
- Keeps current in the field of nursing, through networking, conferences, conventions, journals and workshops.
- Communicates effectively with all other department managers, enhancing interdisciplinary cooperation and team approach.
- Monitors use of clinical computer software, knowledgeable of its function and capabilities.
- Assumes the role of acting administrator in the absence of the faculty administrator, monitoring overall function of the nursing home as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
