Position: Supervisor of School Nutrition

Position Summary: 

• Ensures that highly nutritious, quality food is properly prepared made available and served to each student in the division within the Food Service Budget unless written permission is obtained.
• Procures state guidelines and operate food service within State, federal and local policies and guidelines.

Job Type: Full-time

Contract: 11-month

FLSA Status: Exempt

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Extensive relevant knowledge and experience in the areas such as institutional food service operations, management, business, and/or nutrition education.
• Abilities and skills needed to lead, manage, and supervise people to support the mission of Child Nutrition Programs.
• Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, parents/guardians, and community members.

Essential Functions: 

• Plans and supervises the preparation and serving of menus at all schools.
• Provides assistance and suggestions to cafeteria managers for the preparation and serving of government surplus foods.
• Supervises the overall safety and sanitation program in the school food service stations.
• Supervises the proper handling, serving and storage of all foods
• Coordinate the use of food service department facilities and/or equipment by staff or outside group.
• Maintain monthly schedule of revenue per expenditures in order to remain within budget guidelines.
• Determines eligibility of free and reduced lunch applicants.
• Purchases and maintains an inventory of all foods.
• Reviews, evaluates and submits recommendations for and receive approval for purchase of new or replacement equipment.
• Makes all applications for federal subsidies.
• Prepares reports required by State and federal agencies.
• Establishes and implements a cycle menu program (and other measures) to control and manage inventory and reduce food and supply waste.
• Works with managers and food service employees to increase employee efficiency and the quality of food served and provides necessary training.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Division Superintendent.
• Abides by all Middlesex County School Board Policies and Regulations.

Special Requirements: 

Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.  Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Physical Requirements: 

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
