Title: Veterans Resource Specialist
Civil Service Title: Community Service Aide
Overview: Provide information, referrals, and support to veteran’s populations throughout Middlesex County in regard to eligibility for services & service-related benefits.
Responsibilities
- Assist Veterans and dependents in applying for benefits, Federal/state/local.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with public and other governmental agencies to cooperate with veterans’ programs.
- Develop partnerships with a network of community resources to provide health care, counseling, and transportation support services to veterans.
- Provide support for veteran’s events throughout the County.
- Serve as staff to the Middlesex County Veterans Advisory Council (MCVAC)
- Analyze and determine the impact upon veterans of new/revised federal and state legislation.
- Participate on councils, committees or task forces that develop special interest programs for veterans and dependents.
- Coordinate the distribution of flags, grave markers and wreaths to community groups for various events.
- Provide program oversight and case management for clients of the County Veterans Housing Assistance Program.
- Conduct public outreach on available VA benefits.
- Prepare and give presentations on veteran’s program and issues to Freeholder Board, outside agencies and the public.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree required
Experience: Prior experience working with the Veteran population and prior experience in case management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Verterans services system
- Effective writing, communication, and computer technology skills
- Public speaking ability
