This position will provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients and alert floor staff of any behaviors requiring intervention.
(50%)*Maintains visual observation of patient(s) at all times. Verbally redirects patient(s) from engaging in any at risk behaviors. If this is not successful, incumbents will summon floor staff to assist. Provides floor staff with information in a timely fashion regarding patient safety issues, particularly when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in the collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues in accordance with policies and procedures. Collaborates with coworkers to create a safe environment for patients. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to appropriate staff members. The two person team alternates video monitoring with on the unit patient rounding to validate remote monitoring safety measures in person. The rounder additionally eliminates adverse events and allows the unit staff to feel supported in the care of a virtually monitored patient. Supplemental rounding will be performed with intentions to decrease events specifically with high falls risk patients.
(30%)*Answers patient questions within scope of practice and directs other questions to appropriate floor staff.
(20%)*Participates in shift report with oncoming staff. Reviews pertinent patient information and behaviors.
High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of reading, writing, math, and computer skills. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs.
