Overview of Position

We are looking for a fun, motivated, and self-starting individual to join the team as an Assistant Taproom Manager. This individual must have a passion for craft beer and enjoy sharing their passion with others. The Assistant Taproom Manager position will help assist in growing and operating our biergarten/taproom with a combined seating capacity of over 500 guests. You will be responsible for developing relationships with our guests and delivering an exceptional guest experience. You will help manage daily operations, lead a team of bartenders, baristas, and other taproom staff, focusing on customer service and beer knowledge. Mighty Squirrel is looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about craft beer and wants to grow professionally with Mighty Squirrel. The ideal candidate will have management experience, be passionate, committed, relentlessly quality-focused, a good listener, mentor, and teammate. This position will report to our Marketing Manager. You will ideally be able to join our team as soon as possible.

Mighty Squirrel was founded by friends and home-brewers Naveen Pawar and Henry Manice in 2015 and has since expanded distribution of its beers across Massachusetts through its partner Atlantic Beverage. In December 2018 we launched our first brick and mortar brewery and taproom in Waltham and have served hundreds of thousands of customers since then. Our unique space provides an immersive experience for all guests with our entire brewing process open to viewing from the taproom. Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain smooth daily/nightly taproom operations while overseeing beer, food, and retail operations as well as special events
  • Follow specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of the taproom business and hold teammates accountable to them
  • Ensure taproom opening and closing procedures are being followed
  • Ensure all safety protocols are observed in the taproom; train, reinforce, and improve a safety culture and attitude in taproom operations
  • Oversee and uphold excellence in all areas of customer service, including but not limited to, greeting, educating, and processing transactions
  • Assist in the development of business strategies to attract more customers, expand store/taproom traffic, and optimize profitability
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming taproom environment
  • Deal swiftly and effectively with all issues that arise from staff and/or customers
  • Plan, organize, market, and execute events
  • Develop rich partnerships
  • Plan and schedule food trucks, food pop ups, and other food vendors to operate on-site on a regular schedule
  • Help coordinate beer releases and tours
  • Track key performance indicators (KPI’s) and keep a record of key measurements in the taproom (labor, sales, inventory, shrinkage, etc.)
  • Assist in staff meetings and trainings as necessary
  • Work with the Marketing Team to utilize social media and consistently promote taproom events and beer releases
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of all taproom marketing collateral
  • Ensure all staff are trained/certified in conjunction with all MA and federal regulatory requirements
  • Perform regular (often daily) staff trainings on beer profiles, style history, sensory notes, etc.
  • Give brewery tours to guests
  • Represent Mighty Squirrel at industry technical events, conferences, and marketing events
  • Set and maintain appropriate food service standards for any food vendors on the premise
  • Ensure draft equipment is routinely cleaned and serviced
  • Perform preventative maintenance on facility and equipment
  • Become highly proficient in the use of our point of sale (POS) system and continue to update and maintain POS terminals
  • Assist in brewing operations as necessary (packaging, inventory management, etc.)
  • Flexibility to work any taproom position as necessary (e.g. bartender, door, retail, food server, barista, etc.)
  • Must be able and willing to work weekends, daytime, evenings, and holidays

Qualifications

  • Out of this world communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • A love for working non-traditional hours outside of your standard 9-5
  • Ideally at least two years of experience managing a taproom/bar
  • In depth knowledge of the craft beer industry and emerging trends
  • Previous event management experience, not required but preferable
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggle conflicting priorities, and consistently maintain high quality output
  • Excellent time management and delegation skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and attentive to quality and standards
  • Confident, team-oriented management style
  • Must have Cicerone Certified Beer Server Certification and TIPS Certification, or attain the certifications quickly after joining the team
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. and move up to 165 lbs. using traditional methods
  • All candidates must have and maintain an acceptable driving record and pass a pre‐employment background check.
