Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
Read and interpret engineering drawings, models, and descriptions
Critically review the fabrication requirements submitted by engineering and scientific staff to determine if the scope of work is adequately described for successful fabrication.
Work with engineering to determine preferred manufacturing methods and tools required for job completion
Collaboration with engineering and scientific staff to obtain clarity where needed.
Develop the manufacturing plan while collecting and consolidating labor and schedule estimates to support scientific and engineering projects.
Provide customers with an accurate estimated labor hour and schedule for a defined scope of work.
Overseeing the fabrication processes through completion
Assign work and priorities to leads
Order and track materials and tools for job requests as needed
Develop relationships with alternative internal and external resources and vendors and coordinate manufacturing with those resources where capacity or capabilities are not available within the R&D Shop
Manage and maintain job request tracking processes, scheduling software, and communications systems
Collect a variety of data and statistics and produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports on progress and status
Update and maintain R&D Shop intranet pages and communications systems
Coordinate with customers, expediters, and shipping and receiving to ensure parts are delivered quickly and to the right destination
Working both independently and collaboratively within a team of individual contributors to enable every member to succeed in their respective tasks
Analyze and identify risks associated with the Production Plan, including manufacturing lead times
Keeps operations manager and engineering team updated on status of orders
Provides weekly production plan consistent with the company capacity and forecast
Qualifications:
Basic qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or related field,
8 years of equivalent work experience; or 5 years with an advance degree in R&D fabrication planning.
Demonstrated experience with estimating and scheduling of fabrication work.
Experience working with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, spreadsheets and databases.
Ability to read ANSI standard mechanical drawings of piece-parts and fabrication assembly drawings, plan a fabrication workflow, write shop travelers.
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Preferred qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff, including engineers, scientists, technicians, and fabrication staff.
Experience coordinating R&D engineering projects.
Previous aerospace or chemical industry experience is preferred
Experience working within a formal quality system like ISO 9001 AS9100
Experience in fast-paced, R&D environments
Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude and experience
