Tasting Room and Hospitality Manager
Job Overview
Oversee the daily operations of Millbrook Winery’s Tasting and Tap Rooms and Retail Shop, providing visiting customers with a superior hospitality and a positive memorable visit. This position requires a dynamic person who is interested in taking ownership of the position and who will show leadership to drive the success of our most important retail wine business. The appropriate person will have impeccable customer service and organization skills, successful retail store management skills, be courteous and outgoing, and have excellent personnel management abilities in a fast-paced work environment. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, a team leader, and a willing participant who will work with a small group of dedicated and talented co-workers. The individual must possess excellent communication and entrepreneurial leadership skills.
Work Schedule
Thursday through Monday.
Must work weekends and most holidays – Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day excluded.
Full Time Position - expected is 40/hours per week.
Tasting Room, Tap Room, and Hospitality Manager
Direct Management Responsibilities
- The efficient daily operation of the winery retail Tasting Room and Tap Room within established budget guidelines.
- Hire, train, schedule and manage awesome tasting ambassadors who are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and professional.
- Ensure an excellent customer experience by providing visiting customers with winery and wine information, answering questions, managing the tasting room floor and staff, and resolving problems.
- Conduct daily wine tastings and winery tours as necessary for visiting customers.
- Manage staff during Food Truck Fridays and Jazz Saturdays. Manage staff to clean up grounds after each day.
- Provide guidance and motivation to the TR staff to achieve productivity and sales performance. Responsible for setting an example by being a role model and leader for all TR staff.
- Participate with others in the design and maintenance of retail TR store displays and layout.
- Schedule and manage group tours including buses, independent groups, weddings, etc.
- Maintain the cleanliness of Tasting Room and Tap Room, outside and all restrooms, outside winery grounds and tasting room offices to express a high level of professionalism and good taste.
- Maintain an efficient inventory level of wine, supplies, and retail items on a daily and monthly basis.
- Attend off-site winery functions as necessary.
- Develop and implement new Tasting Room procedures as necessary.
Tasting Room Shared Management Responsibilities
- Assist in the management of special winery functions.
- Assist the Marketing Department in the application of Private Labeled wine.
- Assist the Consumer Direct Sales Department in the shipping of orders.
- Continually strive to improve knowledge in all areas of wine, viticulture and the winemaking process.
- Ensures all company policies and procedures are strictly enforced.
- All other duties as deemed necessary by management for the successful operation of the winery.
Compensation
- Starting Salary: $45,000 based upon relevant experience and earnings history.
- Starting Sales Commission: Based upon TR sales and rental of the facilities. Annual value estimated at $10,000 .
- Year-end Bonus: Based upon personal success at reaching companywide financial goals. Bonuses are determined at the sole discretion of ownership.
- Paid vacation: 2 weeks to start.
- Medical: $500/month contributed to employee medical premium.
- 50% wine discount on all Millbrook wine.
Tangible Qualifications
- Must work weekends and holidays.
- Work experience of managing a retail store – staffing, training, ordering, display.
- Work experience managing a restaurant or other hospitality venue.
- Must possess excellent customer service and hospitality skills.
- Ability to lead by example while building effective and respectful relationships with other departments within the organization.
- Successful Sales Experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- P/L experience.
- Excellent and proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel). Must know how to use Excel.
- Must be able to lift 40lbs (case of wine weight) continuously.

- Must be aware of physical surrounding environment at all times.
- Must be constantly aware of cleanliness in TR and surrounding areas – inside and out.
- Must love and drink wine…even though may not know a lot about it.
- Must be outgoing and have great verbal skills.
- Must be curious and want to learn new things.
- Must understand the short term but take a long-term view.
- Must know how to have fun….
