Millersville University of Pennsylvania is recruiting for an Online Program Student Support Specialist in the College of Graduate Studies and Adult Learning – Online Programs Department. This position serves as the primary point-of-contact for current online students in fully online programs (graduate and undergraduate) and provides timely assistance in addressing student problems and supporting retention and program completion.

Annual Salary: $40,900.00, plus comprehensive benefits, including:
  • Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium. Employees pay 5% of bi-weekly salary for benefit coverage with ability to pay 2.5% when participating in the wellness program.
  • Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days
  • Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days.
  • Group life insurance – equal to annual salary at no cost to the employee
  • Retirement – 2 plans to choose from
  • Tuition waiver – employee, spouse, and dependents are eligible
  • Vacation leave – up to 11 days accrued per year for first 3 years, increases to 19 days per year after 3 years
  • Sick leave – up to 11 days accrued per year, including up to 5 days per year that can be taken to care for a family member
  • Holiday leave – 12 days per calendar year

Required Qualifications
  • Three years of advanced clerical or para-professional experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience with database management including but not limited to data entry, processing, and report generation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, grammar, and composition.
  • Effective public relations, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate to a diverse group of individuals, and establish and maintain good working relationships with students, the University community, and the public.
  • Ability to solve problems, handle multiple, complex tasks with accuracy and attention to detail while maintaining a professional demeanor in fast-paced work environment; maintain confidentiality; work independently; become familiar with academic and office policies.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated work history of reliability and dependability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview (Including Word and Excel tests)
  • Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of successful experience in customer service and supporting the needs of adult learners.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in student-related position in higher education.
  • Experience using Banner software.
  • Experience having taken online courses as a student.
Job Description
  • Coordinates online student registration processes and helps to ensure continuous enrollment.
  • Coordinates new online student processes such as online student orientation, D2L on-boarding, and other retention-related services.
  • Ensures steady and regular flow of information to online students (email, social media, etc) about campus procedures, policies, events, and other resources, including keeping the Online Programs website up-to-date and adding new virtual resources to that site as needed.
  • Serves as primary liaison between the Office of Online Programs and other campus departments/offices concerning online student support services, including student success offices, ELCM, library resources, etc.
  • Continuously monitor the needs and experiences of online students and provide reports/recommendations to the Director and Dean as needed.
  • Provides administrative coordination for online student academic records and coordinates the data input, integrity, and reporting of student records for the Office of Online Programs.
  • Responsible for the ongoing training of Online Programs staff in the use of Banner system modules and other Banner forms pertinent to the operation.
  • Assists the Director of Online Programs with online student retention initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Ability to sit for long lengths of time.
  • Extensive writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Basic and advanced math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages, formulas, equations).
  • Understanding of written directions.
  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
