Position Purpose:
Under the supervision of the physician, according to established standards, provides inpatient and outpatient management, consultations, and co-management of non-invasive surgical patients.
Responsibilities:
Manages patients with the highest degree of independence in the provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and in a highly specialized area and across the continuum.
· Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients utilizing interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
· Administers medication monitors vital signs, provides care for surgical wounds, and coordinates care with other health professionals.
· Prepare exam table and other supplies needed to set up the clinic.
· Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders; and verifying receipt of supplies and equipment.
· Notifies physicians and/or family members of any change in the patient’s health.
· Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients.
· Scrubs in with collaborating surgeon and physician’s assistant in the operating room.
· Provides patient care and safety throughout each procedure.
· Documents procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
· Exhibits bedside manner and calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations.
· Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
Leads direct reports and collaborates with other team members:
· Disseminate and assures compliance with department and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
· Attends team, provider, OBL operations, inventory, cross-departmental, and care coordination meetings.
· Provides practical instruction to students and other health care professionals.
· Maintains open communication and updates with the PRN nurses.
· Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services.
· Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and call rotations, as needed.
· Speaks effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
· Recognizes the influence of beliefs and cultures on behaviors and accepts strengths and limitations in others.
· Serves as a resource person to patients, coworkers, physicians, and any other customer.
· Has the ability to build, organize, and maintain an emergency crash cart.
· Maintains the rolling emergency suitcase with medications, and any additional recovery room stock.
· Performs regular emergency equipment checks.
· Assists with the development and implementation of policies and protocols.
· Gathers data and participates in the department's quality assurance and improvement plan to achieve a defined level of quality and appropriateness of quality care services.
· Maintains quality, standards, and requirements to meet or exceed accreditation vessels under the supervision of the Medical Director of the MIMIT Vascular Lab.
· Assists the Medical Director with accreditation processes.
Participates in Vascular Lab Research Programs
· Works with clinical research team.
· Organizes special research and diagnostic projects.
· Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
· Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
· Must be experienced as a charge nurse and in nursing leadership.
· Maintains BLS and ACLS certifications.
· Data and information centric, with an understanding and appreciation of the importance and application of Data and Analytics to the success of the organization.
· Basic mathematical skills.
· Proficiency with computers and mobile devices.
· CLIA lab management
