DescriptionResponsible for performance of the following: • Writes and edits press materials, including news releases, media advisories, feature stories,photo captions, story pitches, and other public affairs copy.• In concert with the department head, organizes and coordinates news media interviews withstaff, plans and arranges press previews and press releases/news releases; coordinates thedevelopment of press kits prior to events and programs; and ensures preparation of archivematerial of media coverage.• Prepares internal memorandum for media events, interviews, filming or other media relatedprojects scheduled at the museum.• Manages logistics for press events and visits.• Compiles data for, writes and edits monthly and quarterly reporters on media impressions.• Prepares media briefing packets for leadership, staff, programs, etc.• Facilitates private tours for media before, during and after public hours.• Ensures consistency of all communications materials with the Smithsonian and NMAAHC’sbranding and styles guidelines.• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as projects or assignments dictate whileunder direct supervision of a designated employee.• Ability to attend all standing, ad hoc and planning meetings in person as required and viaconference call when permissible.• Ability to provide regular updates and written reports on deliverables, as required.RequirementsDemonstrated knowledge of public relations concepts, principles and practices related to media operations in a nonprofit, agency or corporate setting. The contractor mustpossess knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and demonstrated experience using media monitoring applications (e.g. Meltwater News, Cision, PR Newswire).Demonstrated ability to develop write, edit, research and proofread communications plans, media releases and advisories, publicity materials (e.g., fact sheets, bios, op-eds), marketing and promotional copy, and reports.
