What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant - Physician Services position at Missouri Delta Medical Center?
BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
1. Provides basic nursing care and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
2. Explains procedures to patient prior to initiation and participates in instruction as necessary.
3. Smiles and talks with patient, even if patient appears unresponsive.
4. Obtains and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and weights as required.
5. Promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital.
6. Records information from the patient in a clear and accurate manner.
7. Respects the confidentiality of patient, hospital, and physician related information.
8. Provides for patient privacy at all times.
9. Participates in Quality Improvement.
10. Assists with diagnostic tests, special procedures and specimen collection as required.
11. Communicates and collaborates with health care team members to provide quality patient care.
12. Competently performs core and unit specific clinical skills.
13. Answers calls promptly.
14. Knowledgeable of proper and safe use of patient care equipment.
15. Utilizes basic problem solving skills to prevent/resolve issues.
16. Assist in maintaining an adequate inventory of medical and office supplies for day to day operations.
17. Assists LPN/RN/NP/Physician with daily operations of the office.
18. Performs other duties delegated by supervisor as needed.
19. Calls in medications to pharmacy’s under direct supervision of Physician/NP.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Completion of an approved Certified Nurse Assistant course preferred. BLS training.
EXPERIENCE: Previous Nurse Assistant experience preferred.
SPECIAL:
PATIENT CONTACT: Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
PHYSICAL:
STANDING: Majority of shift spent standing.
WALKING: Considerable amount of time spent walking.
LIFTING: Must use good body mechanics to independently lift or in certain situations, assist with lifting/transferring a patient.
VISUAL: Must have ability to observe patient care areas.
HEARING: Must have ability to auscultate blood pressures and hear patient call light system.
SPEAKING: Talking is essential in addressing patient/family needs and/or requests and communicating with health care team members.
