What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist (Poplar Bluff, MO) position at MISSOURI HIGHLANDS HEALTH CARE?
Missouri Highlands Health Care is seeking to hire a Phlebotomist for Poplar Bluff, MO.
The Clinical Phlebotomist will be directly supervised by the Nurse Manager and will be ultimately responsible to the Chief Operations Officer.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides professional customer service by obtaining demographic and insurance information (if applicable), and perform necessary phlebotomy skills as needed.
III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Follows opening and closing procedures according to office guidelines.
2. Blood draws, tissue samples and other bodily fluid draws, as instructed by provider, when lab personnel are short staffed and/or behind.
3. Greets patients in polite, prompt, helpful matter and provides any necessary instructions/directions.
4. Obtains and enters new patient updates, on every office visit, in the computer system to maintain accuracy for billing if needed.
5. Obtains insurance information if necessary; may require verification by contacting insurance companies.
6. Enter proper billing charges in the charts for lab services.
7. Review billed and captured diagnosis codes for lab.
8. Reviews all forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies prior to accepting.
9. Receiving and processing specimens to the proper lab either MHHC or outside entity.
10. Answers telephone.
11. Conducts self in accordance with MHHC’s employee handbook.
12. Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulation.
13. Performing all other duties, as required.
IV. EDUCATION
High school graduation or GED and;
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
V. SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
1. Word processing and computer experience.
2. Medical/laboratory knowledge preferred.
3. Minimum of one-year work or hands on experience in phlebotomy.
4. Minimum of one-year work experience in customer service.
5. Must be organized and detail-oriented.
6. Must be BLS certified.
VI. ENIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a controlled laboratory environment. Work may be stressful at times due to a busy office. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Work may require hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operation. There may be excessive standing while working at the check-in counter. May be occasional lifting of supplies up to 20 lbs.
