What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Process Automation and Digital Engineering position at Moderna?
The Role:
The Director, Process Automation & Digital Engineering and Support will partner with various to support the design, build, run and maintain function of industrial and automation systems across Moderna for long term success. The Director, Process Automation & Digital Engineering Lead is responsible for providing advanced level expertise to global capital projects including feasibility & concept studies, capital facility buildouts and equipment and system selection, process improvement projects, etc.
He/she may serve as the overall project lead or project technical lead. The role requires the ability to manage multiple contractors and a portfolio of technical projects at the same time.
This role reports into Senior Vice President of Engineering and is based in Norwood, MA
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Lead the automation portion of concurrent complex capital projects at both site and global levels, manage a team of engineers and contractors to proactively identify risks and develop mitigating strategies, while communicating to stakeholders and driving timelines
Strives to ensure the digital and process automation scope is removed from the critical path on all projects
Partner with end users and support functions to develop automation and digital systems technical roadmaps and capital investment strategies
Develop and deploy innovative solutions that contribute to achieving Moderna’s sustainability goals
Lead a collaborative team of engineers and act as a mentor to help grow technical expertise.
Establish and provide support services for technical issue resolution
Partner with Digital teams to ensure a robust, optimized, and integrated digital landscape
Participate on management teams to implement efforts and projects to meet evolving business needs
Apply an operational excellence mindset to help identify, devise, and recommend new opportunities to optimize current processes
Ensure safety and data integrity is prioritized in the design, delivery, and maintenance of all projects and operational activities.
Develops the Process Automation, Instrumentation and Digital Standards for global deployment.
Implementation of automation solution across global network
Lead the automation of existing manual processes.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, engineering or computer science, MBA or PhD is a plus
12 years of experience in an engineering organization designing, implementing, and supporting various industrial systems and working in a GMP environment
Proven track record in leading Industry 4.0 initiatives or projects
Extensive experience in the delivery of capital projects as part of the design team
Ability to provide direction and guidance to external design firms to deliver capital projects
Experience in providing technical support to manufacturing facilities
Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, lab systems, enterprise systems and standalone systems.
Experience working with shop floor equipment, lab equipment, utility equipment and IIoT devices.
Experience with different Industrial systems like (process control, historian, application/web servers, building management systems, utility systems, lab systems and cross platform communication)
Experience evaluating, selecting, and implementing digital systems
Ability to adapt to a fast paced, startup-like environment
Experience in defining, scoping, and managing technology initiatives
Strong knowledge GAMP and GxP compliance regulations
