The Role This position will be in the RNA Science department within Moderna’s Research & Early Development Platform. In this role, you will support the group’s research mission by: 1) maintaining adherent and non-adherent cell lines, fulfilling cell requests, and overseeing tissue culture room tasks, and 2) evaluating a multitude of approaches to enhance the potency and specificity of mRNA therapies. During the internship, the selected candidate will be exposed to a variety of techniques such as tissue culture, transfection, electroporation, live cell imaging, RT-qPCR, and RNA-Seq assays. The candidate should be self-motivated and possess the desire to drive a project to completion. Candidate must be flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Bioengineering-related majors are encouraged to apply. Here’s What You’ll Do Maintain the group’s adherent and non-adherent cell lines (Hep3B, HeLa, HEK293, and/or THP-1); fulfill cell requests 2x per week (Monday and Friday); freeze and thaw cell lines as needed; maintain a well-stocked and organized tissue culture room Work on a personal project that directly impacts the progress of Moderna’s mRNA therapeutic platform. Design, conduct and troubleshoot in vitro/ex vivo/cell-based experiments, independently and/or in collaboration with colleagues. Learn and perform multiple experimental techniques including tissue culture, cell transfection, electroporation, live cell imaging, RT-qPCR, RNA-Seq, and other biochemical assays. Contribute to data analysis and interpretation of study results Maintain accurate and up-to-date record of experiments in electronic laboratory notebook Candidates can anticipate splitting their time 50/50 between cell culture duties and research duties Present your work/project(s) at group meetings and at a final presentation session.
