The Headlines :
The role of Barley Research Assistant will be working in Burley, Idaho. The Barley Research Assistant is responsible for all administrative work associated with Barley R&D activities (PO development, vendor setup, ordering supplies, paying bills).
The Barley Research Assistant's responsibilities include scientific work but not limited to the following : micro-malting, troubleshooting malting equipment, maintaining malting equipment, organizing & presenting malt data to barley breeder, processing malt using NIR, organizing malt and barley samples, organizing & collating malt data;
assisting with packaging, planting, maintaining and harvesting barley trials & processing barley samples post-harvest.
The Responsibilities :
- Conduct all administrative duties associated with setting up POs, setting up vendors, monthly forecasting of spend, assist with annual budgeting, ordering supplies, paying bills
- Conduct activities in malt lab including : micro-malting, operating micro-malter, troubleshooting micro-malter, designing malt recipes, organizing all barley & malt samples, meeting or exceding all deadlines associated with delivering malt data to Manager Barley Breeding
- Assist with all pre-planting activities including but no limited to the following, packaging barley for trial development, putting seed envelopes in map order, map check trials before planting, organizing trials for contractors pre-planting
- Assist with all activities associated with maintaining barley trials and seed lots in Idaho, Montana, Colorado and Wyoming
- Assist with all activities associated with barley trial harvest in Idaho, Colorado and other areas as needed
- Assist with processing baley samples post-harvest including but not limited to sorting and weighing barley bags, cleaning barley samples, processing barley samples in quality lab and preparing samples for micro-malting
The Other Qualifications :
- You have some college, and 1-3 years of experience.
