Part time 36-40 hours/ Pay Period Day Shift- Adult Day Services Assistant position

Position Summary

The Day Services Assistant provides individualized programming to meet the needs of all clients, assisting them to achieve the highest level of functioning possible.

Essential Responsibilities And Duties

Perform Duties in a Professional Manner

  • Perform duties in accordance with Nursing Home and Day Services Department policies and procedures.
  • Understand and comply with Day Services policies, Bill of Rights, Vulnerable Adult Act, and participants confidentiality.
  • Cooperate with Nursing Home and Day Services Department team efforts.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude in working. Follow designated dress code and wear name tag at all times.
  • Perform all assigned daily responsibilities including but not limited to: transferring, toileting, dressing, bathing, and assistance with eating.
  • Follow designated chain of command.
  • Maintain good working relations with supervisor, coworkers, volunteers, clients, and families.
  • Cooperate with other departments.
  • Accept flexibility in assignments and duties at the discretion of supervisor.
  • Accept flexibility in work schedule and being on-call.
  • Attend in-services and training sessions as offered.
  • Maintain a genuine interest in the geriatric clients as evidenced by work habits and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to take instruction, constructive criticism, and suggestions without insubordination.
  • Ability to handle clients requests and complaints tactfully and carefully.

Maintain a Safe and Healthy Environment for Clients and Employees

  • Use correct hand washing technique.
  • Follow Nursing Home fire, safety, and disaster procedures.
  • Operate and maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Keep immediate work areas safe and comply with cleaning responsibilities.
  • Report immediately any:
    • Change in clients physical or mental condition.
    • Injuries to self or participant, file incident report as directed.
    • Problems that may interfere with working ability.
  • Follow proper lifting and body mechanics.
Records/Care Planning

  • Maintain attendance records of daily events.

Provide Quality Activity Programming

  • Recognize the importance of client’s activities and its purpose.
  • Encourage active participation or involvement of all clients in daily programs.
  • At all times maintain a professional, warm, caring, and respectful adult relationship with clients.
  • Respect client’s confidentiality.
  • Assist with creative input in forming of new groups and expanding of present groups.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have current CPR certification and keep certification current.
  • Must have current First Aid certification and keep certification current.
  • Completion of two years of paid or volunteer experience in planning or delivering health or social services including experience in supervision and administration.

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to take direction and establish effective working relationships with Day Service staff.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents and employees of the organization
  • Ability to clearly speak and proficiently read and write in English.
  • Ability to take direction and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must qualify for employment, after criminal background check, per guidelines of the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
