POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a Chef to join our team and prepare delicious meals for our students. Chef responsibilities include studying recipes, setting up menus, and preparing high-quality dishes. You should be able to delegate tasks to kitchen staff to ensure meals are prepared promptly. Make adjustments to food items to accommodate guests with allergies or specific diet/ religious restrictions. Also, you should be familiar with sanitation regulations. Ultimately, you’ll prepare and deliver a complete 7-week menu that delights our students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Culinary school diploma preferred, or two years cooking experience. Must provide references.
Training and Experience:
Food handlers permit required. Two years' experience in food preparation is preferred.
Knowledge Required:
Knowledge of proper food preparation and safety methods.
Must possess a current certificate for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, like knives, pans, and kitchen scales
- Study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients
- Cook food promptly
- Delegate tasks to assistant chef
- Ensure appealing plate presentation
- Supervise assistant chef and assist as needed
- Slightly modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests (e.g., reduce salt, remove dairy)
- Monitor food stock and place orders
- Go grocery shopping every week or as needed
- Hold boundaries with staff and students to ensure safety in the kitchen
- Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
- Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area
- Maintain kitchen budget
- Must ensure breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared and ready before leaving the kitchen
- Must plan and prepare weekend meals for the staff to cook and serve
- Must take the trash off the mountain daily
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proven work experience as a Chef or Cook
- Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment (e.g., grillers and pasta makers)
- Advanced knowledge of culinary, baking, and pastry techniques
- Leadership skills
- Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks
- Excellent time management abilities
- Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
- Familiarity with sanitation regulations
- MUST BE 21 OR OVER.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to stand, bend, walk, lift up to 40 lbs, push shopping carts when applicable. Stoops reaches for and lifts kitchen equipment and supplies.

Starting wage: $19.00/hourly DOE
