Job Description
Job Title: Counseling Team Member
Department: Moriah House
Reports to: Director of Moriah House
Position Objective:
The Counseling Team Member (“CTM”) will support the ministry of Memphis Union Mission by providing focus to clients and their children at Moriah House (“MH”) through counseling, teaching, and discipling.
Position Responsibilities: Authority -
- Has the authority to take action with clients within the prescribed limitations of MH policies and resident guidelines.
Essential Functions -
- Implement and oversee a plan of ministry which makes clear the conservative Christian doctrine of salvation and treats the addicted and abused with dignity, meeting physical and spiritual needs while demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.
- Participate in client intake and make referrals as needed.
- Conduct counseling sessions and teach classes as assigned.
- Maintain client records and counseling notes in a professional manner.
- Relationally invest in MH clients and their children.
- Schedule and plan activities and special events for clients in collaboration with the MH Director.
- Must model an example of godliness, responsibility, and diligent work ethic to staff and clients at all times.
Duties and Tasks -
- Attend weekly MH leadership team meetings or functions as directed by the MH Director. Collaborate with other MH team members providing feedback as requested.
- Conduct weekly counseling session for assigned MH clients (45 minute session with 15 minutes of preparation and subsequent counseling notes).
- Post counseling schedule for assigned clients.
- Implement the approved discipleship curriculum in counseling sessions.
- Develop and maintain client records, monitoring client activities and passes.
- Ensure that the integrity of the MH program is upheld.
- Administer drug testing as needed.
- Provide work assignment recommendations to MH Director as requested.
- Drive mission vehicles as needed.
- De-escalate conflicts between clients.
- Practice consistent progressive discipline for rule violations in a loving manner.
- Interview prospective MH clients.
- Orient assigned MH clients.
- Inspect residences of all assigned MH clients.
- Assist the MH director with other duties as may be assigned.
- Engage in community relations activities designed to increase public awareness and / or fund raising activities of the Mission and MH.
- Participate in a wide range of activities associated with Memphis Union Mission as requested by the MH director including special events and graduations.
- Assist with administrative functions and volunteer coordination as requested.
Position Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree; Seminary trained or equivalent; or Master’s in Counseling
- Licensing / Registration / Certification: A valid TN driver license is required.
- CPR Certification
- Experience: Experience of working with individuals in need who are unable or unwilling to competently care for themselves with an emphasis on discipleship and counseling. Demonstrated attitude and ability to compassionately serve and love Mission Union Mission clients.
- Computer proficiency: Word processing and spreadsheet skills required.

Position Knowledge Requirements:
- Working knowledge of computers, word processing, and spreadsheet and office procedures.
- Understanding of biblical application with discernment.
- Willingness to personally complete all curriculums assigned to clients.
- Willingness to learn principles of Nouthetic counseling.
- Willingness to continue education including certificates from Light University unless comparable coursework is presented.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24,970.01 - $30,000.00 per year
