About the role: This role has a diverse set of responsibilities, primarily focused on managing Morningstar’s compliance with global privacy regulations. This role reports to the Associate General Counsel and Director of Global Privacy, currently based in Chicago. Job responsibilities: Provide business-oriented and strategic advice and legal counsel to personnel at all levels of Morningstar companies. Serve as subject matter expert regarding privacy regulations in the United States, Europe, China, and various locations where Morningstar does business. Monitor compliance with diverse set of privacy regulations and develop strategies to respond to new regulations, decisions, or other legal developments. Draft, review, and negotiate privacy terms in commercial agreements, including data processing agreements. Assist information security team with response to suspected privacy incidents, advise regarding regulatory obligations, including requirements to notify impacted parties. Collaborate with product teams to perform privacy reviews, data protection impact assessments, and transfer impact assessments. Assist privacy program team will the development and management of privacy-related governance. Serve as escalation point for privacy operations team for data subject requests, customer due diligence requests, and other matters. Develop role-based privacy training materials for teams across variety of functions and promote privacy awareness within the company. Qualifications: 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney in privacy law or related field Licensed to practice law in local jurisdiction. Strong understanding of European and American privacy regulations. Experience drafting and negotiating data protection agreements and/or commercial agreements. Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams. Ability to work independently. Strong legal and business judgment. Strong writing ability and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate information in an understandable way. Ability to translate complexity into a meaningful, actionable framework. Some tech fluency or ability to quickly study novel concepts. Position may require some domestic or international travel. 001_MstarInc Morningstar Inc.
