Job Description
Summary
Provide instruction for arts classes to students of all ages and abilities.
Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age minimum. Professional experience in the arts or craft of specialty is preferred. Ability to work independently and creatively. CPR and first aid certifications required or will train. Must possess strong communication skills and effective personal skills for working with students who range from youth to adults.
Supervisor
The Cultural Arts Instructor reports to the Recreation Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Provide Cultural Arts classes to students all ages and abilities.
- Assess student skill and knowledge of the craft or art form during initial class.
- Provide appropriate teaching of craft or art form so that students can progress toward their goal.
- Provide a safe, fun, creative class environment.
- Have effective time management skills to ensure that classes are on time.
- Be highly organized to keep track of any changes to their weekly schedule.
- Support the Morton Grove Park District safety initiative including adhering to policies and procedures, performing your job in a safe manner, attending required training, seeking additional training as needed, promptly reporting accidents/incidents, and proactively addressing hazards in the workplace.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Psychological Considerations:
The Cultural Arts Instructor is responsible for a safe and well-organized class.
Physical Requirements:
General work area is indoors, in a smoke free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting.
Performs tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting.
Cognitive Considerations:
Ability to use good judgment is necessary as well as a friendly and outgoing personality.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Worker must be able to follow direction from supervisor or with safe and effective follow through.
- Worker must be able to use good safety and awareness and judgment.
- Worker must be able to participate in safety related trainings as required.
