Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team!

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides direct patient care in the Recovery, and Postpartum setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with providers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.  Performs general nursing duties in the Perinatal Department. Participates in performance improvement activities and quality assurance.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  2. Able to provide family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother-baby unit.
  3. Able to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines. Will complete newborn resuscitation competency within 90 days of hire and recertify quarterly.
  4. Able to perform vitals and initial admission and head-to-toe assessments on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy.
  5. Implements a teaching plan based on identified learning need and evaluates effectiveness of learning.  (Family is included as appropriate)
  6. Able to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  7. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.  Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
  8. Communicates appropriately any patient care issues and current assessment clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and providers.
  9.  Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary      approach to the patient’s needs.
  10. Coordinates and supervises patient care, as necessary.
  11. Demonstrates an ability to assist providers with procedures in the perinatal unit.
  12. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful and emergent situations.
  13. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  14. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  15. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Reevaluates plan of care each shift.
  16. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department, with other departments, and with other facilities.
  17. Written and Computer documentation meet current standards and policies.
  18. Manages and operates all equipment on the perinatal unit safely and correctly.  Reports broken equipment immediately per protocol.
  19. Able to assess wound and teach wound care to post-operative patients.
  20. Able to teach self-cares to patients after delivery.
  21. Implements consultations and referrals as needed.
  22. Able to perform all newborn screening, blood sampling, and discharge procedures.
  23. Able to complete all discharge teaching and follow up instructions to patient and parents of the infant in detail according to policy and procedure.
  24. Demonstrates the ability to use the electronic medical record and hospital intranet.
  25. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, staff meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice in ongoing education. Attends staff meetings and bi annual skills labs to maintain competency.
  26. Demonstrates the ability to use Healthstream and completes assigned modules.
  27. Demonstrates the ability to access the Policies and Procedures on the Hospital Intranet.
  28. Communicates effectively in English.  Bilingual skills are beneficial.
  29. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  30. Wears hospital identification while on duty.
  31. Reads emails weekly.
  32. Follow established chain of command.
  33. Meets requirements for quarterly bonuses.

Qualifications


Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.

 

Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated:

•           BLS Healthcare Provider within 2 weeks of hire.

•           Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 6 months of hire. 

•           ACLS within 6 months of hire.

•           STABLE within 12 months of hire.

•           Complete Maternal Newborn orientation competency within 90 days of hire, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency.

•           Working knowledge of the human anatomy and its application to the well and sick perinatal patient.

 

 

Experience:  Previous postpartum experience preferred.

 

Equipment/Technology:  Basic Computer Skills.  Able to use a variety of medical devices including, but not limited to: I.V. pumps, radiant warmers, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pumps, and respiratory equipment.

 

Language/Communication:  Excellent communication skills and leadership capability.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages.

 

Mental Capabilities:  Possess critical thinking and organizational skills.  Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome.  Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

 

Interpersonal:  Able to work well with others. Able to de-escalate volatile situations. Able to offer and consider constructive instruction. Possess leadership abilities.
