What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Breeder Operations position at Mountaire Farms?
Direct Company Breeder Operations producing 10.5 MM hatching eggs per week, as well as feed mill operations producing an average of 3,600 tons of pullet and breeder feeds weekly. Evaluate the effectiveness of current husbandry programs in relation to historical performance as well as comparison to overall industry performance. Assist in development of operating and capital budgets, as well as ensuring adequate staffing is budgeted for each area of responsibility. Ensure Breeder and Feed Mill operations function in compliance with all regulatory and Mountaire policies and procedures. Develop subordinates to provide bench strength for future openings in Breeder and Feed Mill operations. Generate Producer contract proposals and submit for approval along with housing and equipment upgrades.
Duties/Activities Required by Job
- People Management - provides overall direction and support to the Breeder team to achieve operational and safety goals. Guides training & development activities related to Breeder Operations to develop competence and commitment. Communication (Written & Verbal) with Breeder Operations, Feed Mill and Technical Teams, as well as VP of Live Operations, Contract Growers, Vendors & Suppliers.
- Facility visits (Feed Mill, Contract farms) to monitor compliance to all Mountaire programs and policies/procedures, as well as governmental regulatory areas.
- Review/analyzing reports for performance trends relative to both internal budgets, as well as overall industry performance.
- Compiling budgets, submitting CERs, approving expenditures, completing performance evaluations, salary requests, Producer contract increases.
- Meetings (Safety, Performance Reviews, Webinars, Capital & Staffing Budgets, etc.)
Educations/Experience Requirements
- Minimum Associates degree, Bachelor's preferred
- Minimum 15 Years total experience in poultry production desired, with two of ten years experience in feed production desired.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong organizational and computer skills. Ability to learn new skills and stay abreast/adopt new changes in flock husbandry and feed manufacturing techniques, as well as industry and regulatory related changes relative to animal welfare, biosecurity, environmental, safety and safe feed compliance (i.e. FSMA), Safe Feed/Safe Food).
