Essential:

1. Operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) HELLER machining centers with Siemens 840 D Controllers according to instructions, routings, control plans, production requirements, plans and diagrams
2. Study machining instructions, routings, control plans, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional and finish specifications, sequences of operations, complex machine setups, and tooling requirements
3. Select the appropriate tools, and materials to be used in preparation of cubic engine components
4. Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
5. Check precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, fixed and telescoping gauges, templates and fixtures, and adjust according to quality control plans
6. Perform fine-tuning of tools/equipment through sample cuts and optimize the CNC program in regard to tool durability, preventing the collision of tools/equipment, program sequencing
7. Observe machines operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems
8. Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools. If significant disruption occurs forward to maintenance and contact supervision
9. Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
10. Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
11. Maintain industrial machines within the scope of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) specifications, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
12. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
13. Identify and reduce non-value-added work
14. Perform special projects as may be required and maintain on the job flexibility by providing support in other production related area.
15. Promote a compliance culture in area of responsibility and live the letter and the spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct.

Advanced Job Functions

• Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Lift work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes
• Establish zero reference points on work pieces, such as at the intersections of two edges or over hole locations
• Calculate machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts
• Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and maintain records of all manufacturing steps and deviations in the work piece heading card during the process and save modified programs.

Qualifications:

Qualifications (Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Required:

1. High School Diploma/GED and 2 years in a mechanical, maintenance or machining trade school or equivalent Associate's Degree; or 3 years of experience in a heavy-duty machining environment
2. Intermediate knowledge of CNC-controls (preferred SIEMENS 840 D Controllers) machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
3. Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
4. Basic ability to interpret Statistical Process Control (SPC) and operate scanning devices for system communications
5. Basic knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods (Quality Alerts, Second Checks, etc.)
6. Basic knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and the ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
7. Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills where problems are complex
8. Basic interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with other employees
9. Basic ability to interpret blueprints, build documents, schematic drawings, layouts or other documents regarding engine assembly and testing
10. Basic organizational, planning and follow-up skills and the ability to cope with stress
11. Basic oral and written communication skills
12. Basic reading, writing and math skills
13. Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
14. Basic PC knowledge and the ability to efficiently operate computer terminals, tools, and devices
15. Ability to work overtime as required. This position is scheduled for the off shift which starts at 7:45pm and ends at 6:15am, Monday through Thursday. Initial training may occur on 1st shift from 6am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday, until training is completed.
    

Preferred:

1. Ability to interpret knowledge of MTU America products, policies, and procedures
2. Experience as a CNC milling cutter operator
3. Knowledge of SIEMENS 840 D Control System
4. Ability to obtain appropriate hoists and power vehicle licenses (Flatbed, Hi-Lo, & Mule) when necessary
