This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services
HOURS OF WORK: Hours Vary; Monday thru Friday
LOCATION OF WORK: Central Transfer Station: 1208 East 56th Ave, Anchorage, AK; Anchorage Regional Landfill: 15500 E Eagle River Loop Rd, Eagle River, AKSupervises the activities of the Engineering and Planning Division. Serves as the Department’s Project Manager for large design and construction projects (over $100 Million). These projects are highly controversial and sensitive environmentally and to the public, and require significant coordination with stakeholders, public advocacy groups, state and federal agencies, and other Municipal departments. This position entails professional engineering and management work requiring use of considerable independent judgment and initiative toward engineering projects concerned with planning, design, location, construction and maintenance of Municipal structures associated with solid waste management. Position is responsible for environmental management and regulatory compliance at all of the Department's active and closed sites. This position exercises supervisory responsibility for four positions, an Engineer II, Engineering Intern, Engineering Technician I/II and an Engineering Technician III/IV.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, and eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering experience, of which two (2) years must have been involved in managing the construction of large engineering capital projects.
Some positions may require current licenses, certifications, and/or endorsements at time of application, at time of hire, and/or a specified time after hire:
Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license at time of hire
Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alaska
Preferences:
Strong background in Project, Program or Construction Management and Design
Experience in Engineering Administration
Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations and Permits
- Knowledge of Municipal Codes
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicles' driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
