Instructional Designer

We are seeking an Instructional Designer to join our team. This individual will report to the Manager of Learning & Development and will be onsite or hybrid (three days a week) at either our corporate offices in Chicago, IL or at one of our 190 dealerships nationwide. Our Instructional Designer will be focused on designing, developing, and delivering compelling, innovative, and effective learning products and experiences for our employees. You will apply your expertise in instructional design, learning experience design, technology, and adult learning theories to craft modern learning experiences that drive business impact and performance. You will collaborate and build strong working relationships with all functions in the Learning and Organizational Effectiveness department, key stakeholders, and subject matter experts to ensure end-to-end alignment from concept to delivery of learning solutions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Design: Create and implement immersive, interactive, engaging, and effective learning experiences and deliverables over a variety of formats such as eLearning, instructor-led, virtual classroom, webinars, workshops, toolkits, facilitator/participant guides, job aids, etc. Leverage appropriate technology to drive learner outcomes such as augmented reality, game-based learning, MOOCs, audio/visual media, simulations, role-plays, etc.
  • Learning Needs Analysis: Collaborate with learning and organizational managers, key stakeholders, and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with key strategic priorities, understand the learning needs, and build effective solutions that leverage the latest in technology and adult learning principles.
  • Curriculum Maintenance: Convert existing static content into usable, effective, and interactive content. Document and maintain written training materials, procedures, and processing manuals to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects and training requests simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while ensuring delivery of best-in-class experiences. Accurately capture requirements, seek appropriate approvals, estimate timelines and deliverables/milestones, continuously update stakeholders regarding roadblocks or general project status, and evaluate/communicate results.
  • Industry Expert: Stay informed of and skilled in developments in the learning industry to identify new and innovative learning technologies and approaches that will improve knowledge transfer, increase scalability, and drive business impact.
  • Data & Insights: Leverage dashboards, training metrics, and evaluation to track utilization and effectiveness of learning programs. Improve and optimize content as necessary to further drive successful business impact and learning outcomes.

  • Enhance current processes and systems to drive the learning culture.
  • Recommend new tools, processes, and procedures to continually improve the way we build curricula and training content.
  • Execute projects quickly, with strong attention to detail and follow-through.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or minimum 3 years relevant work experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or other related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience developing high-impact learning experiences with a true appreciation for audience needs, thoughtful design, rapid development, attention to details, and a keen focus on the user experience and alignment with business & learning strategies.
  • Experience designing content using a variety of authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline/Rise, PowerPoint, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, JavaScript, etc.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Up to 5% travel required.
