What are the responsibilities and job description for the PAYROLL SPECIALIST/HW position at Muskegon County, MI?
An employee in this class, under the general supervision of the Payroll Supervisor, performs payroll functions ensuring that HealthWest’s payroll records accurately reflect work hours, wages and deductions. In addition, the Payroll Specialist performs challenging clerical and technical account keeping tasks in compliance with well-established departmental policies and procedures. A Payroll Specialist prepares and processes the HealthWest bi-weekly payrolls and maintains and updates payroll records and prepares required payroll reports. The Payroll Specialist performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
1. Have an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major in accounting, business administration or other business-related field AND two (2) years of experience in payroll processing for a including preparing journal entries and account reconciliation;
OR
Have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or other business-related field.
2. Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
3. Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.
Preferred but not Required
1. Bilingual candidates highly desired.
2. Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
3. Individuals in Recovery and individuals with experience in Armed Services valued.

EVALUATION CONTENT
Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.
