Muskegon Public Schools is offering a District Site Liaison position for the Girls on the Run program to coordinate program/coaching in collaboration with each elementary building and the middle school. Program coaches will lead an after-school program for girls identified as at-risk girls, both academically and behaviorally, in order to support the successful completion of core academics and drop-out prevention. Participants will train and compete in a non-competitive 5K event. The in-person 5k is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
Start Date: January 2024 – May 2024 (10-week program w/students)
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Running experience not required
- CPR and First Aid certified (training provided)
- Attend Girls on the Run coach training
Responsibilities:

- Act as the primary contact at the site for the participants, families, and the community
- Participate in the Celebration 5k event
Terms:
$2,061 at conclusion of season; Temporary grant-funded position
(45 hours facilitate/coach, 5 hours parent meetings, 5 hours 5K celebration, 13 hours of training)

Job Description
Title: Girls on the Run District Liaison
Classification: Coach
Reports To: Building Principal or Designee
Job Function: Coordinate after-school program for the district, “Girls on the Run”, servicing girls identified as at risk both academically and behaviorally in order to prevent failure in core academic areas and dropout prevention. All participants will train and complete a non-competitive 5K event.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate the program district wide for the four schools identified.
2. Support the Coach positions in each building.
3. Support girls in gaining a better understanding of self, team work, healthy relationships, and impacting their community in a positive manner.
4. Collaborate with Coaches to lead participants through the curriculum.
5. Aid in recruitment efforts by posting marketing materials and informing the community of the program.
6. Offer support to families who need assistance with registration.
7. Assist in planning and execution of group participation in a 5K event followed by a celebration that offers a tangible sense of goal-setting and achievement.
8. Assist Coaches in the development of a group Community Impact Project that participants plan and execute as a team.
9. Guide students to complete an individual project where they reach out in small, meaningful ways to an individual or group in their community (middle school only).
10. Attend and plan each practice.
11. Attend all training sessions.
12. Attend parent events if appropriate.
13. Complete Site Registration for each building.
14. Recruit Coaches as needed.
15. Recruit girls to participate.
16. Oversee Coaches and lessons during the season.
17. Communicate with principals, teachers, and families before and during season.
18. Assist teams at 5K event.
Qualifications:
1. Strong communication skills.
2. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, public, and administrators.
3. Reinforce desired student behaviors and provide corrective feedback for unacceptable student behavior.
4. Ability to demonstrate mature judgment, reliability, availability and ethical behavior, including punctuality and confidentiality.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to operate recreation equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor work environment subject to varying weather conditions
- Ability to work in condition requiring bending, crouching and kneeling to assist students; pushing/pulling and lifting of recreation equipment; standing/walking for prolonged period of time; occasional running and jumping; and reaching in all directions.
