Job Description

Summary:

The Lead Teller is responsible for ensuring smooth and orderly operation of teller lines and related functions. Responsible for supervision of branch Teller staff. Responsible for end of day and end of month procedures. Assists members with their financial transactions, involving paying and receiving cash and other negotiable instruments. Due to demonstrated knowledge and judgement, is entrusted with prescribed override authority. Cross-sells credit union products and services. Ensures that members are aware of electronic services, such as remote deposit capture, online banking, Bill Pay, e-statements, mobile app, and online loan approval.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision for the branch Tellers.
    • Compiles Teller Transaction Reports.
    • Schedules and monitors daily activities of tellers.
    • Coaches and trains Tellers in all assigned responsibilities.
    • Completes and presents coaching logs and performance reviews.

  • Manages vault cash and cash dispenser cash, including ordering cash, performing buy/sells for the tellers, daily vault balancing, and weekly cash dispenser balancing.
    • Compiles the Daily Deposit Report (Check 21), monitoring and making corrections as needed.
  • Manages, orders, balances, and completes outage research for all consignment items.
    • Receives and processes member financial transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments.
    • Sells money orders and traveler's checks to members; transfers amounts from member accounts as directed.
    • Correctly maintains member's account information.
    • Process FICS Mortgage payments and ECM loan payments.
    • Reset passwords on home banking, order checks, change of address.
    • Process teller overrides as appropriate and within prescribed override authority.
  • Performs monthly teller audits for all teller drawers, vault cash, ATM, and cash dispenser, as well as periodically monitoring teller drawers for compliance with drawer limits and teller outages.
    • Produces Summary Ending Cash per Teller Report and ensures Branch Cash Limit is not exceeded.
    • Maintains over and shorts general ledger report.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ensure that the department provides friendly, professional, and personal service to all members.
  • Ensure that tellers follow the Teller Balancing Policy.
  • Keep management informed regarding key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and businesslike appearance.
  • Complete all required compliance/operations training and abide by credit union and governmental rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
  • Follow policies set forth in the employee handbook.
  • Maintain a high skill level and keep abreast of all changes so the Tellers can follow the Lead.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience
    • Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
  • Education
    • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED
  • Skills
    • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills.
    • Thorough understanding of customer service.
    • Ability to remain friendly.
    • Excellent managerial skills.
    • Above average knowledge of fundamental mathematics.
    • Ability to be trustworthy and act with integrity.
    • Ability to remain calm and to minimize panic in the event of a robbery.
Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. This includes but may not be limited to keyboarding, writing, and filing.
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 75 pounds for various needs.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates in person and in writing with members, managers, and colleagues. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe details at close range to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
