Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician II works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist to prepare and distribute medicines to patients. This role includes screening orders for accuracy, data entry, insurance adjudication, filling, labeling and use technology to help maintain accurate patient records. Pharmacy Technicians are directly involved in receiving and dispensing prescriptions within their scope of practice. All Pharmacy Technicians must comply with state and federal law regarding pharmacy practice and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enter patient information into the pharmacy software program accurately and efficiently.
- Counting, measuring, labeling, and preparation of specified products.
- Assist in maintaining records on prescription volume and sales.
- Tender customer transactions in a quick and efficient manner.
- Promote for sale to our customers any current charitable promotions.
- Interacting with customers to answer questions (within scope), provide information, or collect payments.
- Contacting prescribers or insurance companies to obtain authorization for refills or coverage.
- Understand the operation of the cash register and follow all cashier handling policies to prevent loss.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
- Display a positive attitude.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management.
- Practice preventative maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or manager of any items in need of repair. Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Assist the Pharmacist in all responsibilities except those that require a judgment call by a pharmacist.
- Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to travel to various sites to cover our pharmacies with limited advanced notice.
- Assist in training and serve as a mentor pharmacy technician I team members. Must be able to assist with various tasks related to departmental projects and reporting.
- Other duties as needed within scope.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Familiarity with office equipment and pharmacy software: computer keyboarding, calculator, photocopier, and faxes.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work with people of all socioeconomic levels.
- Strong team player with a focus on collaboration.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Bilingual, ability in Spanish preferred
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Texas.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- Previous comparable experience of 5 years
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or Formal technical training program- preferred.
- 5 years of retail pharmacy experience- preferred.
- Compounding, IV admixture or specialty pharmacy experience- preferred.
- Pharmacy technician Immunizer- preferred.

- Occasionally required to sit.
- Frequently required to talk and stand.
- Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific frequently vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision, Color vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, and Ability to adjust focus.
