POSITION: Business Technology Teacher

SUMMARY:
To provide students with quality standards-based instruction in the area of Business Administration; assess and encourage student progress; manage an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement; promote academic, social, and citizenship development through leadership and classroom instruction and successful integration of program assigned Career & Technical Student Organization (BPA).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design lessons with an appropriate level of difficulty that provide content in a logical and sequential manner using class time effectively for all assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the classroom and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
  • Identify pupil needs and provide instruction appropriate to those needs
  • Use multiple student data elements for the purpose of assessing student progress, modifying instruction and improving student learning
  • Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning by participating in professional learning communities, showing professionalism, and growing professionally
  • Follow modifications and accommodations as specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and attend IEP meetings and collaborate with special education teachers as needed
  • Implement the Idaho Core Standards, as well as the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives, in lesson plans, classroom instruction, unit planning, and assessments
  • Devise written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking as well as the reproduction of facts, and use them to evaluate student progress on a regular basis
  • Prepare students academically for district, state, and federal testing
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Communicate and collaborate with students, parents and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student success and growth while engaging the families in the instructional program.
  • Advise a career-technical student organization (BPA) for the development of industry recognized technical skills and incorporate BPA competitions and leadership activities into the business curriculum.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Attend faculty meeting and conferences as directed by the Building Principal and participation in in-services activities and other professional growth opportunities.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise
  • Provide needed and requested information on a timely basis and input data in a timely fashion
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and know and follow school district policy and chain of command
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
  • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
  • Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education
  • Represent the school district in a positive manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
:

  • Idaho Teacher Certification with the required endorsement.
  • Teaching or student teaching at appropriate grade level, preferred.
  • Two to Six years of teaching experience in a Middle or High School, preferred.
  • Able to Obtain an Occupational Specialist Endorsement.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance, instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and/or employees of the district.


PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:
Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding instructional practice and discipline.


PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS:
Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to conduct basic math functions and manipulate formulas in spreadsheets as needed.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit; walk and stand and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds. May be required to block or redirect students during negative behavior. Be able to effectively supervise and support staff when consequences are implemented, including supervising physical restraint and seclusion if necessary for safety.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 170 day calendar assignment
