Profile of a Natick Educator
JOB GOAL:
To support English learners by working with individual students and small groups to implement material prepared by the collaborating teacher.
Paraprofessional Educators implement teacher provided instruction, and therefore are not responsible for the planning of the educational program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school graduate minimum; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Professional Certification: Not required
Specialized Knowledge:
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to students
Preferred Experience:
- Demonstrated experience and interest in working with students.
- Experience working with English language learners preferred
- Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and PowerSchool preferred, but will train the right candidate
Skills:
- Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
- Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable
- Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
- Candidates must be flexible and collaborative
- Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth
- Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production
- Ability to effectively work with students, school staff and administration
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)

Works with school leadership to combat systemic barriers that limit students' equitable access to opportunity.
- Supports students in developing English language listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Supports students in English Language Education classes and general education classes, including but not limited to math and science.
- Works with students individually and in small groups, or assists collaborating teacher in addressing student and building needs.
- Implements strategies to promote students' independence, effort, and participation, including, but not limited to, monitoring note-taking, prompting students for on-task behavior, and redirection of students.
- Establishes a professional and effective work relationship with classroom teachers, specialists, and administration by serving as a member of the ELE team and the building community.
- Adheres to daily schedule, and is consistently present, punctual, and prepared to work.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and maintains a high level of confidentiality in regard to information about students.
- Performs other such duties as assigned by the building principal, collaborating teacher, or ELL Department Head
- Identifies and addresses bias and its impact on rigor and opportunity for students and staff
