IT Specialist (SYSADMIN)

This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Administration Division.

Qualifications:

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/29/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40 hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must demonstrate competence in attention to detail, customer service, oral and written communications and problem solving. This experience includes activities such as: (1) performing a variety of data base management activities, (2) determining hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment necessary to accomplish unit objectives; (3) managing the installation of automatic data processing resources to include the installation of computer hardware and network hardware, and (4) monitoring network and systems performance and troubleshooting routine problems. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education (18 semester hours) in a directly-related graduate level college study such as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of at least a Bachelor's degree in a directly-related field (as described in above) AND I meet one of the criteria of Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.): (1) Class standing - Must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed course; OR (2) Grade-point average (G.P.A) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on four years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final two years of the curriculum; OR (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution shown in 1B (50% of the qualifying education). EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must demonstrate competence in attention to detail, customer service, oral and written communications and problem solving. This experience includes activities such as: (1) assisting in the implementation and maintenance of network and systems services; (2) monitoring network and data security and diagnose and resolve problems for a wide variety of applications, operating systems, and equipment; (3) documenting and initiating response to security problems; (4) providing guidance and training to customers
in accessing network and systems services. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education (36 semester hours) leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that includes major study in directly-related graduate level college study such as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management. You must include transcripts.

Responsibilities:

Major Duties:

• Plans, develops, and coordinates the implementation of computer-based services and applications in support of the unit's mission.
• Is the principal advisor to the unit's staff in the use of programs.
• Serves as an active team member in developing unit plans and is responsible for formulating and recommending information technology policies, plans, and procedures. After approval, incumbent is responsible for their implementation.
• Assures compliance with operational and security requirements as directed by General Services Administration, Departmental, and National Park Service regulations.
• Develops local implementing instructions based on guidance developed at higher levels when multiple system issues and network systems are involved.

GS-09 additional Duties:

• Develops highly technical guides to support server configurations ensuring optimal performance.
• Evaluates and reports on new trends and equipment in the customer support field.
• Design, configure, and troubleshoot server hardware and drives.

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Page, Arizona is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity.
