POSITION SUMMARY: The Billing Manager oversees agency-wide billing systems including client billing, client benefits coordination, and assists in applications for panels. Manages billing department staff and monitors daily operations of billing department. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Manages, directs and monitors billing and reimbursement activities; ensures accurate billing to the appropriate third party. Manages Billing Specialists; distributes and audits work, maintains a customer service focus across the department. Reviews patient account status; submits electronic and paper claims to carriers for reimbursement; identifies researches and resolves billing and submission errors. Posts payments and denials; enters charges for encounters; monitors client co-pays and premiums; researches and resolves denials. Generates periodic and ad hoc reports; communicates regarding AR variations, changes in billing and reimbursement status. Sets up new providers in practice management system and coordinates with Credentialing Specialist and hiring managers on the set up. Coordinates with Coding Manager on onboarding new providers and expectations in regards to billing. Assists in planning and directing registration, patient insurance, billing and collections, and data processing to ensure accurate patient billing and efficient account collection. Coordinates with Front Office leads and Practice Managers to train receptionists on insurances, sliding fee scale and other billing information to ensure clean claims Collaborates with Billing Operations Director and IT regarding set-up changes and system updates within practice management database Contributes to implementation of new components in practice management system and the implementation of a Electronic Health Record system. Assists Billing Operations Director in monitoring the practice management system, provides feedback and billing training to intake and front desk staff; collaborates to monitor productivity. Facilitates regular billing meetings. OTHER JOB DUTIES: Maintain database of carriers in practice management system. Attend meetings as requested and/or required. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and training required. Five years current experience in healthcare billing and coding (CPT, ICD-10, & HCPCS) required. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required. Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet creation, manipulation and reporting preferred. 1-2 years experience with FQHC & IHS billing preferred. 2 years supervisory experience required. Ability to train staff and set performance expectations. Exceptional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills; consultation and mediation skills; organizational skills; high accuracy, flexibility, ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a team environment. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, the community, and other staff members. Work collaboratively with clients, other NARA staff, team members, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity at all times. Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community is considered a plus. If in recovery, must have a minimum of two years sobriety/clean time. Ability to pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests. Ability to pass criminal background and DMV checks.
