MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Vocational certification as a Certified Welder.
2 years of full-time work experience of any combination of training, education, and in the construction, maintenance, and/or repair of underground natural gas utility lines.
1 year of experience as a certified welder.
Valid CDL Class A License with Hazmat Endorsement required (subject to motor record review).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Measures, cuts, and fits steel and PE gas pipe prior to joining by reading and interpreting drawings and standards and following established gas industry regulatory procedures and guidelines.
Assists in installing, maintaining, and repairing gas lines.
Replaces or installs service lines, main lines, valves, etc., as required to construct, maintain, or repair the NTUA's gas system using welding or fusion techniques in accordance with project plans following established regulatory procedures and guidelines.
Monitors and stocks welding supplies on crew truck to ensure adequate amounts of gas lines, rods, fittings, etc., are available to complete assigned projects.
Operates a motor vehicle or equipment such as: dump truck, crew truck, backhoe, various ½- and ¾-ton or larger trucks to service and maintain the NTUA's gas system.
Operates equipment required for the installation of gas lines such as boring machines, air compressors, line stopping equipment.
Inspects welding and fusing equipment to ensure that it is in safe operating condition.
Attaches service tap connections to high- and intermediate-pressure gas mains using welding, or fusion techniques and procedures as appropriate for the pressure, size, and type (steel, PE) of gas main.
Assists in preparing required reports by compiling information.
Conducts all job duties in a safety conscious manner that reflects safety for others as well as self in work habits in carrying out assignments.
Installs gas meters.
Inspects and wraps or coats steel pipe joints, damage areas, and new welds to prevent corrosion.
Installs and assists with the installation of saddles, clamps, and emergency repair devices to stop leaks in gas mains and services.
Assists in the maintenance of cathodic protection systems including the installation or replacement of anodes and the installation of other monitoring and testing equipment.
Observes safety rules, and ensures and maintains a safe environment.
Maintains records of scheduled and completed maintenance, work orders and other reports as requested; completes forms according to established policies and procedures.
Must be certified annually in the use of arc welding equipment and PE pipe fusion and must demonstrate competency at any other time as may be required by the NTUA to be retained in this class.
Performs other duties as assigned.
