What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sign Painter position at NC State University?
- Positions will be responsible for working with the University Architects Office to create a schedule and refurbish over 300 signs on campus exterior buildings.
- Positions will meet with University Architect, Building Project Manager and Contractor to determine what signage will be needed for new buildings and making sure they meet specifications and code.
- Will read blue prints, identifying and preparing materials and supplies for installation projects. Will be responsible for creating the signage within specifications and code.
- Positions will create safety and regulatory compliant signs and labels on campus using industrial label printer.
- Will meet with customers, faculty/staff and department heads, detailing labor, materials and schedule of completion for each project.
- Estimate labor and material requirements for high quantity production run and custom engraved, vinyl and printed sign orders. Ability to operate New Hermes Gravograph, Vision Engraving and Routing system, Braille software, laser engraver and plotter.
- Maintains sign and installation schedule to meet project requirements.
- Utilize AiM to control work flow. Prepare bill of materials, material
- requests and control inventory to assure production requirements are met.
- Uses artistic ability and professional judgment to create effective sign products in an efficient and cost effective manner.
- Assist painters/plasterers as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
- Journeyman level commercial painting, sign design, layout and installation experience.
- Skilled in the mixing of paints and in matching and blending colors.
- Knowledge of the differences between coatings and their use.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 plus pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
