Product Line Manager – Frac Systems
Reports to:
Chief Technology Officer
Overall responsibility
The Product Line Manager (PLM) is responsible for managing the strategy, development, products and services, and overall health of the product line. This position works closely with members of the marketing department, sales, technical support engineers, manufacturing, leadership, and operations to ensure all efforts surrounding the product line are in alignment with corporate strategy. The product line manager is also responsible for adhering to and promoting the company values, and applying The Promise.
Key areas of responsibility
- Lead the business
- Take active ownership and accountability for product line successes and opportunities for improvements.
- Direct all aspects of product development, including
- Creating, or enabling others to create, business cases to explain and justify NCSM expenditures
- Creating, or enabling others to create, Statements of Requirements for all Oracle engineering projects by working with all stakeholders: manufacturing, sales, engineering, business development, and operations.
- Execute product launches by directing Applications Engineers to
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop material
- Collaborate with sales to set pricing
- Collaborate with tech writer to document procedures and best practices
- Collaborate work with Technical Support Engineering group to support field trials and documentation
- Track product performance through BI group and operations to manage the life-cycle of products from field trials to retirement or divestiture.
- Work with BI to produce, maintain, and update a dashboard of market share, NCS product mix, price, NCS product adoption trends.
- Understand the market
- PLM will apply various marketing frameworks as analysis methods to understand and communicate the health of the product line to leadership and make informed decisions to guide the product line.
- Identify methods to track pricing and market share
- Gathers competitive intelligence including pricing and product details
- Work closely with IP to understand patents and trademarks of NCS and competition. Communicate any potential infringement
- Evaluate competitors or new ventures for worthiness of acquisition/partnership
- Provide content and direction to marketing department to drive creation of appropriate marketing materials for each relevant geo-market.
- Internal Interfaces
- Review bottom’s-up forecast prepared by sales and operations. (by customer/by project/ by well)
- Market Activity – macro analysis dashboard
- Support supply chain and manufacturing in establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors.
- Establish training curriculums for new employees including engineering, sales, and general/administrative groups, in conjunction with the marketing department.
- Intellectual Property
- PLM will be familiar with the intellectual property portfolio of the product line and observe marketplace for infringers of patents and trademarks and report back to IP department regarding any potential infringement.
- PLM will be familiar with the intellectual property process for patents and trademarks. PLM with use and encourage others to use trademarks properly, use invention disclosure forms for inventions, and participate fully in the patent generation process.
- Gatekeeper for messaging, images, engineering drawings, confidential information, and other PL content for communication outside the organization in accordance with best practice.
- PLM will respect the IP of other entities, including vendors, customers, and competitors.

- PLM will be familiar with the confidentiality and contract processes and documents
- PLM will and coach others to use CA, NDA, and MSA documents correctly
- External Interfaces
- Customers
- Work with BD and Sales to gather “voice of the customer”
- establishing and maintain relationships with customers in purchasing and influencing positions
- Competitors
- Monitor competitor activity and report out to other groups as required
- Monitor competitor equipment and service offering and benchmark against NCSM offering.
- Customers
- Evaluate competitors for proposed acquisition and report any attractive candidates to CTO and CEO
- Industry leadership
- Attend / Monitor SPE conferences and read papers to stay abreast of the latest developments in the industry.
- Exhibit NCSM capability through publication of technical papers; attending and participating in workshops and forums; hosting webinars; establishing and maintaining relationships with other industry thought leaders
- Other Responsibilities
- This role is global in nature. Ability and willingness to travel is mandatory.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory factors surrounding your product line, for instance HSE reporting, EPA controls, and so forth.
- Align individual goals with NCS corporate goals, while adhering and leading the “NCS Promise”
- Conduct, participate in and promote Personal Development for Success (PDS), for both self and direct reports, ensuring effectiveness of program
- Support and uphold HS&E policies and procedures of NCS and the customer
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science, Business or related field, or equivalent
- 10 years of Oilfield experience in relevant market space
- Business Acumen – possess or learn basic financial skills from accounting department to better understand and make wise decisions in guidance of the product line with respect to inventory control, pricing, investment, expense control, and so forth
- Understanding and appreciation of the life cycle of products.
- Project management training and experience a plus
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced and potentially stressful environment
- Willing to think on their own, with excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
- Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
- Ability to make sound business decisions in a timely matter
- Proficient communication skills, oral and written.
- Ability to communicate to all levels of NCS and customers organizations
