Job Responsibilities and Duties

This position is responsible for supporting Project Managers on multiple projects involving engineering development, maturation, and integration of autonomous technologies for unmanned aerial vehicle applications. Directed by Project and Program Managers (PMs), the Junior Project Manager performs assigned managerial tasks, following defined approaches to track project resources, expenditures, and progress while also assisting PMs in coordinating project activities.

Summary of responsibilities includes:

  • Regularly track project expenditures and resources, monitoring dependencies, requirements, and progress towards project completion.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement of financial tracking and resource allocation tools addressing evolving business needs.
  • Assist with communicating expenditures, schedule status, resourcing, technical progress, and a path forward towards fulfillment of milestones and deliverables.
  • Provide support to document and convey project status to internal stakeholders and external customers via quad charts, reporting, and presentations.
  • Support the creation and management of proposals and project plans including budgets, schedules, work breakdowns, Contract Data Requirement Lists (CDRLs), and tasking necessary to achieve project objectives.
  • Structure project files and assist in developing and maintaining project documentation in line with the Project Management Office (PMO) guidelines; assist in maintaining the PMO playbook, to define company processes and procedures in managing projects and programs.

Areas for growth include:

  • Work with technical project leads and Program Managers to plan and execute company projects.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans including technical scope, resource planning, cost estimates, and schedule projections in support of strategic planning, business development, and proposal activities.
  • Provide/recommend solutions for resolution of issues, including resource and priority conflicts, within and between projects.
  • Assist with configuration management, information management, test data support, documentation management, integrated logistics support, and quality assurance activities across projects and/or product lifecycles.
  • Evaluate recommended changes/improvements to program management processes, quality improvement processes, procedures, policies, and plans.
  • Interface with Program Managers, Technical Leads, and Engineering personnel in support of various company initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technology-related field required.
  • Relevant internship or other prior professional experience is a plus.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Proficient in Microsoft Office,  including Microsoft Project, and Google Workspace.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and be a multi-tasker; able to balance multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter and ambitious, seeking out ways to contribute to project success, PMO operations, and company agendas.
  • Experience in an industry that is relevant and/or transferable to robotics, sensing, and autonomy.
  • Prior experience contributing to R&D and/or technology maturation efforts is a plus.
  • Prior project management experience is a plus.
  • Due to the nature of Near Earth's funding, this position is restricted to US citizens.
