The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reports, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, and implementing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. This role requires experience as an insurance adjuster or similar, with a strong emphasis on working across organizations and departments for clarity and accuracy. The Controller will oversee the accounting operations, including accounts receivable, collections, and payroll processing.
Key Responsibilities:
Management:
- Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage outsourced functions.
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, designing an organizational structure to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, focusing on control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
Transactions:
- Ensure timely payment of accounts payable.
- Ensure all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
- Ensure prompt collection of accounts receivable.
- Process payroll in a timely manner.
- Complete periodic bank reconciliations.
- Ensure timely payment of required debts.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
Reporting:
- Issue timely and complete financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report.
- Recommend benchmarks to measure the performance of company operations.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Provide a system of management cost reports.
- Provide financial analyses as needed, particularly for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
Compliance:
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 10 years proven experience as a Controller or similar role, with specific experience in insurance adjusting or a related field.
- Expertise in accounts receivable and collections, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Experience working across organizations and departments to ensure clarity and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
