Reporting to the Sr. Editor, the Content Producer I writes stories for NESN.com, including news, analysis, features and opinion pieces. They are responsible for editing stories, developing and executing story ideas, with minimal to no guidance. Develops weekly content plans for beat assignments, with regular guidance. Writes story headlines and social media teases that follow NESN.com’s best practices. Edits and posts NESN video, while adhering to sponsorship obligations and video regulations. Exercises good judgment in content selection and prioritization, and participates in and makes regular contributions to discussions about packaging content. Trains and may mentor less experienced staff and interns.
About You
- You will:
- Create original written content for display on NESN.com and its syndication partners
- Develop and edit original written content, video content and wire content
- Use photos, video, audio and social media to produce innovative content
- Edit content on various platforms to ensure a consistent and appropriate “look and feel” and editorial voice
- Be active on Twitter and comfortable working with social media tools
- Work with programming and production staff to develop editorial strategies and packages
- Determine and prioritize stories and ensure content has a consistent energy and "feel," and is compelling, engaging, understandable, informative and current
- Ensure all content meets NESN’s network standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Use analytics tools to identify audience trends and inform editorial decisions
- Develop a schedule of participatory content including blogs, poll questions, user-submitted questions for talent and user-generated video and photos
- Participate in developing, implementing and maintaining an efficient workflow
- Participate in developing and implementing best practices to effectively engage a consumer audience, properly integrate technology and product, cross-promotion and site accuracy
- Successfully complete other related tasks and projects as needed
- You have:
- Excellent writing and editing skills, in terms of quality and proficiency, with a strong knowledge of AP style
- BA/BS in Communications, Journalism, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience
- Excellent news judgment
- Strong knowledge of New England sports and strong general sports knowledge
- Proficiency using multimedia and social media tools
- Ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must possess a positive “can-do” attitude
- Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organization skills and a proven track record in multitasking effectively
- Strong work ethic, reliable and professional
- Basic understanding of HTML and Web video editing
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and create a sense of teamwork in the presentation of various productions
- Ability to successfully work in a fast-paced, loosely structured, growing and changing work environment
- Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision but also able to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to work afternoon-evening hours and have flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed
