Nevada Outdoor School AmeriCorps Program has an a opening at the Pleasant Senior Center in Winnemucca.

2. Schedule: Monday-Friday 10 am - 2 pm.
3. Position Summary: The Elder Program Assistant will help the Senior Center offer support and State/National program information to clients through one on one counseling and information sharing. The volunteer will support individuals making choices which affect their health and financial well-being. This position will have access to vulnerable populations.
4. Primary Responsibilities: Gain knowledge of community elder resources and help connect clients with appropriate services, required to become a State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) volunteer and work with the SHIP program to assist seniors in choosing/changing their benefit plan, provide individual counseling to Medicare beneficiaries regarding Medicare insurances and programs, insure the client's rights and benefits are upheld, make referrals to other agencies and programs when appropriate, maintain and submit contact records, promote awareness of senior services offered.
5. Related responsibilities: Assist in creating an atmosphere that is harmonious and pleasant, assist with ongoing volunteer recruitment for senior center programs, be available during senior center lunches to build a rapport with clients.
6. Required knowledge: Skills and abilities: patience, active listening skills, enjoy working with senior citizens, self-starter, strong team player, ability to communicate information clearly and effectively, willingness to comply with policies and procedures, insure client confidentiality, willingness to become SHIP trained and attend ongoing SHIP training in Reno, good computer/Internet skills, research skills.
7. Required Academic: GED/high school diploma. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or agree to earn a high school diploma or equivalent before using an educational award.
8. Term of Service and Time Requirements: Part-time 900 hours term Start date 9/5/22 - 8/31/23
9. This position does not duplicate work of previous or existing employees or volunteers, supplant the hiring of workers, or include service or duties that have been performed or were performed by a current employee, an employee who recently resigned or was discharged, an employee subject to a reduction in work force, or an employee who is on leave.
10. This position is located at Pleasant Senior Center in Winnemucca. Most of the position will be in the center interacting with senior citizens, however some travel will be required for SHIP training in Reno. The functions of this position may be completed with or without reasonable accommodations. 11. AmeriCorps members are expected to wear AmeriCorps gear while serving, to include provided shirts or buttons. Dress is business casual. AmeriCorps members participate in 1 National Service events during the year and additionally, are expected to participate in regular team meetings held in Winnemucca. The member may participate via teleconferencing; must disclose all criminal convictions during the application process; will need to pass a NSOPW check; undergo a National Service Criminal History Check and for it not to report any statutory exclusionary offenses to AmeriCorps service; must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States; and must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of service.
12. AmeriCorps members may be eligible to receive a living allowance depending upon the number of hours served of up to $708.34 per month; are eligible to receive a post-service education award upon successful completion of service of $3,247.50; student loan forbearance and interest payments, if the member qualifies; health care and child care are available for eligible members; and professional development opportunities are available. AmeriCorps members will receive CPR and First Aid training.
13. Evaluation and Reporting: Member will receive a mid-term and an end-of-term performance evaluation. Member will be responsible for submitting bi-monthly time sheets and quarterly performance measure reports.
