JOB GOAL
The attendance officer will be available to their assigned school principals to work with students and families with attendance and habitual behavioral concerns through intervention meetings, home visits, and making referrals to appropriate community services based on individualized need. They will work to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and school based staff, as well as the juvenile court system via on going communication with probation officers, DCF workers, court clinicians, and the juvenile's court appointed attorney.
Performance Responsibilities

They will work to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and school based staff, as well as the juvenile court system via on going communication with probation officers, DCF workers, court clinicians, and the juvenile's court appointed attorney.
Performance Responsibilities
- Monitors students' attendance through reports to identify students with chronic absenteeism and habitual school offenses and works with school staff and teams on interventions. 2.Directs students and families with chronic attendance issues and habitual school offenses to appropriate resources including but not limited to: school/District based; alternative pathways, afterschool programming options and other District or community resources. 3.Enforces District attendance policies by investigating cases of prolonged or unexcused absence from school as well as working with school staff on student cases with chronic attendance issues, and is familiar with Massachusetts General Law, MGL Chapter 76 Section 1, which defines how/when students are deemed to be truant and/or habitual school offenders. 4.As needed, investigates student residency/guardianship issues by making home visits to ensure that students actually reside within the school district, and clarifies cases where legal guardianship is in question. 5.Acts as a liaison between the schools and the court system in order to support families if they need to file a CRA (Child Requiring Assistance) Petition or in filing court habitual offender in extreme cases. 6.Completes and submits all reports to Juvenile Court for all scheduled court dates/appearances for all court involved students to ensure updated and accurate rulings and conditions can be issued by the Judge. 7.Works on cases involving habitual truants, absentees, and habitual school offenders and ensures that these at risk students are put through the school based support services plan development. 8.Meets with families as needed to ensure necessary services are identified/ provided, as well as issues related to truancy/chronic absenteeism are understood. 9.Works with school based staff on behavior intervention teams as it relates to reducing the incidents of truancy/absenteeism. 10.Works collaboratively as a member of the school community in gathering and sharing data on school attendance related metrics and supports available to improve student attendance. 11.Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor/principal.
